Elon Musk sounded off on this and apparently the overwhelmingly negative response overseas was not what the Japanese normiesphere was expecting as they seem pretty riled up too.

I do not believe that person works for Square Enix. The game in his banner is an Atlus/SEGA property.

I haven't followed the Japanese side of things, as I'm not bilingual, but they can't be happy if the creator and the guy in charge of shonen jump are speaking out about it. You don't DO that in Japan.

This kike faggot worked on SMTVV and Pirate Yakuza? At this point, Squeenix deserves its downfall.

Hope someone has an archive of that TGS stream, it's been set to private, the woman and the company doing the interview have put out statements decrying it being clipped, the guy who subtitled the interview has deleted his x account and put up a statement from a lawyer, and multiple japanese news sites covering it have deleted their articles and x posts about it.

Between this and the recent butchering of Japanese history in gaming(Assassin's Creed: Nigger and Ghost of Tsushima 2: Vagina) I don't imagine your average Japanese gamer is happy with the West. You know, that and because our games suck, are woke and appeal to nobody.
I hope more Japanese developers speak out against censorship and mentally ill localizers who intentionally destroy their work.

Anybody see this yet? Smells like bullshit to me. What the hell is "KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku" anyway, and is it even really "Horii's group"? He seemed pretty clearly against the body type nonsense, so either this is damage control because he slipped up and spoke his mind, or these journoscum are lying as usual.

That is just the radio program he and Torishima host, under the label of Tokyo M.A.A.D. SPIN. That was how they were interviewed together by denfamico gamer for TGS on the 28th, so the broadcaster released a statement to cover it's ass. The mistranslation applies only to valute news turning "puritanical" into "sex education", anyone who says the rest of the translation is wrong is a disingenuous faggot:

FireShot Capture 004 - Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake - Dragon Quest Wiki - dragon-quest.org.png

I'm just loving this "there was a single typo in the translation that means the entire interview is invalid and we can remove even the raw Japanese version from the internet forever, nothing to see here, DEI is our strength and Horii agrees, no you can't talk to him in fact he'll never speak in public again" ~thing~ that's going on after everyone got their marching orders yesterday.

They apparently were going to put out official subtitles for the interview but then they realized that, oh shit, it's not maliciously edited he really did say that shit and the official subtitles are now "delayed."

I’m still holding, no one made them do this. They did it because thry did not think it would blow up in their face and then learnt it would. So the guy in charge comes out shit talking it and they have the cover to change stuff back in the next few months or with a patch update.

And added benefit of a bunch of people that don’t care and would never care suddenly playing it.

There is absolutely no way they undo the pronoun shit or the "Type A" thing. They do it on every one of their games now. Every AAA publisher in Japan does it now.

I also get the sense that they didn't think it would leak out into the English-speaking world. Shit getting censored in Japan has become so commonplace that the Japanese have largely accepted it and they probably put up with this under the same idea of , "Well what can you do, you can't just go violating social decency standards y'know"

Having it leak out and having English-speaking internet get so angry about it is going to start making them ask themselves, "Wait if no one is actually asking for this, why do we have to do it?"

ANN is literally just trannified gen Xers who cling to their Ranma 1/2 laserdisc rips. I legitimately don't know a single weeb under the age of 40 that reads it because they basically spend all their time shitting on anything made after 2000.

ANN destroyed what little credibility it had left after the kickvic bullshit blew up in its face, now it's just a tranny hugbox begging for donos because ad revenue dried up quicker than a puddle in the Sahara after readers left in droves A shit hole like ANN trying to control the narrative is no different from a random neverpicked's posting her bitchfit on xitter to dozens of views.

As for the cunts trying to be smug about how censorship is not a big deal, throw it back in their faces by agreeing and saying how all lgbtpedo content should be scrubbed as well and then watch them squirm as their brainrot clears up just enough for them to realize they shot themselves in the foot.

Makes you wonder how this will affect the sales of the game. Usually these type of interviews happens a couple of months after the game release. More people are aware of these type of things everyday and having the original authors ranting about the forced changes isn't exactly good PR. Square Enix isn't exactly on the best financial situation right now and this recent news doesn't help them at all.
And they’re supposed to be making a Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D remake as well for release next year. Square Enix can’t stop making poor decisions. They’re burning so many opportunities and bridges with the things they’ve been doing lately, and it’s just a shame. Are they doing this type of stuff with their Romancing SaGa 2 remake or their Fantasian port?

That doesn't work. They don't see it as censorship. Literally they excuse it away.

"Oh the costume's not censored, it's being cleaned up to get rid of that icky male gaze objectification shit. Besides it's not being mandated by the government. Ok, but they have to do it to adhere to the ratings body the government runs, they have no choice. They're CHOOSING to make these changes. They're doing an artistic choice to modernize the design. Toriyama was an old perverted Japanese pedophile, and you know how degenerate they are, so ok that it's updated. It's a minor change so who cares? Can't you find some porn to masturbate to easier than forcing an underaged character in a game for children to dress like a slut, you freak?"

What it ultimately and transparently boils down to is "we like this change (or it agrees with our ideology) so stop complaining about it." If you tried to censor LGBT shit, they'd suddenly very much give a shit again. For example, when Steven Universe had some of the random dyke shit removed from the UK version, the same people handwaving shit like the DQ3 remake's changes away LOST THEIR GODDAMNED MINDS ON TUMBLR.

Most publishers don’t get this much backlash publicly and fueled by the creator no less with enough time to fix it.

It'd be a miracle if this effected sales though.

Considering how huge DQ is in Japan and how pissed about this everyone seems, I’d honestly be more shocked if it did not have a direct effect on sales.

We will know if it does not sell a few million relatively quickly in Japan.

Any real truth to this?

People claim it's "a travesty to the legacy of the late Akira Toriyama," but Toriyama himself drew the redesigns for the cast before he passed and even okayed the Female Warrior's redesign for the Japan-only Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Quest remake that came out 12 years ago (which was never even released in the United States). There's no valid discussion to be had here, no insight to be garnered from any of this: just a lot of opportunists on the Internet who have nothing of value to offer audiences tilting at windmills, propping an unseen enemy as a target for audiences of disaffected gamers to claim some "conspiracy" is afoot, that games—and Japan in general—needs to be defended from a nebulous California-based plot, hopping from talking point to talking point once there isn't any outrage left to mine from a given topic. Because don't you know, in an industry where longtime inhumane working conditions towards developers, unsustainable revenue practices, and rampant mergers and acquisitions have led to tens of thousands of game developer layoffs this year alone, the real problem games face is that you might be forced to play as a woman or a Black person—or worse yet, a Black woman. The state of the industry hinges on there never being a video game adaptation of Michiko to Hatchin.

Once again with "But your meanie comments hurt our jobs" nonsense with tacked on accusations of racism for no reason whatsoever. People have the right to complain about things they don't like. You aren't special just because you made those things that were disliked. Stop huffing your own farts. This reminds me of that "entitled gamers" rant that was spawned by people not liking the ME3 ending and having the audacity to say so. The industry gets no respect because they keep making asses of themselves. You can't exist without us buying your games. So if you want to keep the lights make better ones and stop with the woke translations, censorship and baby tantrums every time someone calls you out for it.

Here's a translation of the twatter post linked in the quote.

To be honest, the majority of people who are now complaining about the female warrior in Dragon Quest 3 being politically correct haven't played Dragon Quest for ages, and probably won't play this remake either. The idea of wearing an undershirt to reduce the exposure of her bikini armour has been around since the 3DS Terry game 12 years ago.
I'm outraged that they changed her beautiful black leggings to tacky beige...!

To be honest the black isn't much better. I feel like the beige is them going "It's kind of flesh colored so shut up". Changing the armor itself to make a fuller plate would have looked more natural. It's not so much a redesign as it is a last minute coverup. It feels like a decision handed down in haste. It's just the Dokapon censoring all over again. If you want to make the characters dress more conservatively then redesign them properly. Don't just slap a recolor on the chest and thigh area. It looks retarded and is just as bad as putting up censor bars.

Over all I'm more concerned about the retarded body type nonsense. Catering to a few they/themlets at the cost of being scared to label the selection as male and female.

As for the gender options being changed to "types"—that's not exactly "new" in Japan, either. Animal Crossing: New Leaf opted out of asking players for their "gender" during character creation, opting to ask players for their "style" instead. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life also allowed players to choose their body type separate from their gender while also letting players choose their personal pronouns. In Japan, the game gave players a third "Other" option.

It's less that there's any offense over the terms "male" and "female" and more that there is an effort in Japan to recognize X-gender individuals, "X-gender" being the identity used in Japan by gender-neutral or non-binary people. Again, with Dragon Quest commanding such a nationwide following in Japan, Square Enix is likely trying to be as inclusive as possible within its own local population. It's not like Dragon Quest is any stranger to genderqueerness, either; Dragon Quest XI featured the extremely flamboyant Sylvando, whose story very strongly hints to at his being painfully non-heterosexual. Who knows, maybe Horii doesn't understand the X-gender community (he's an old man). But it's utter nonsense to pretend there's any American-fueled push to force an agenda when you look at the actual status of the queer community in Japan—there's a sizeable queer population in Japan, and there's no reason for Dragon Quest to ignore them. Not to mention, at no point did Horii ever mention anything regarding Americans or sex education or Puritanism.

Utter lunacy.

The spin off games like the DQM mobile games and the like were where they snuck this shit in. They didn't get Toriyama to redo the design, nor did they get him to OK the changes. What they did was slap some black or purple tights under his designs and call it good. Took 5 minutes of some jackass with blender to do, I'm sure. He had 0 involvement in it. None. They were all blatantly last minute changes done when Square Enix's DEI department ("Ethics and Global Standards") saw the game hadn't been properly censored to appease the blue haired landwhales in Square Enix US's HR department.

The new art is not Toriyama's art, I do not believe. It's done by the same artist as all the 2DHD games, like Bravely Default or Octopath Traveler -- Naoki Ikushima, doing his best to imitate Toriyama's style.

Not all the spinoffs and mobile designs had the painted on tights censorship. Some Pokemon Go clone in Japan had the censored character from DQ3, and instead of giving her tights under her armor, they made her even MORE feminine and just gave her more armor around her (much curvier) hips. Basically a armor sarong to match the bikini armor.

These people have been censoring Japanese shit for almost two decades in the name of woke faggotry. They got tired of people pointing it out, and it offended them that Japan had a different culture than they do, so they've been pushing Japan to self-censor to their standards, and it's reached the point where the official main line Dragon Quest games are obeying their Californian masters now.

Final Fantasy fell with FF13, where they shoved a random black guy as best they could to try and mollify these types. It just took longer for DQ to fall.

Over all I'm more concerned about the retarded body type nonsense. Catering to a few they/themlets at the cost of being scared to label the selection as male and female.

The fact that all the major publishers in Japan are doing the "type 1 / 2" thing is also a pretty big self tell, but they don't realize it. No human being actually calls a man a "body type 1." Not even the batshit woke troons on twitter do that anymore. Some of the most unhinged freaks on Tumblr did back in the day, but the average troon realized demanding people call it a "feminine dick" wasn't going to fly without a few more decades of indoctrination and normalization, so they stopped.

This is that normalization.
"It's not a male body, it's a body type 1, call it that or else, bigot."
"My pronouns are she/her, so I'm female."

Combine the two?

"This is my feminine dick. Suck it or I'll have you fired and your bank canceled, you stupid transphobic dyke."
