  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
A random YouTuber I follow, gives what seems like an honest and non-biased report from NC, first time I’m seeing quite how extreme the weather was.

It emphasises (if anyone didn’t know) that local government in NA is, by choice, run on a shoestring, nothing is joined up, so unlike in Japan where everyone would be evacuated and warned well in advance, everyone is just fending for themselves, so the death toll is much higher than it needs to be.

Disaster response from federal and state level is still available, but it too will be stretched by the increasingly severe climate change related events.

Yeah, willy mac broke that down in a video about him and he frames it as hoping he is just an idiot and mis-spoke.

Still hoping for the courts to just execute him. He deserves it.

It's amazing how my post about the flooding in Brazil's equivalent of Texas, where aid was denied and the army deliberately blocked aid to a majority conservative state and population has happened in America to the exact letter.

It's horrifying, really.

I know the copyright for Winnie the Pooh expired a while ago but I thought Disney still had the trademark on their version of the character. Like how Wizard of Oz is in the public domain but people can't freely use the 1936 movie versions of the characters since they're trademarked.

So kinda surprised Disney doesn't sue more of these for that.

Also reminder that Soviet Winnie the Pooh is the superior version

Cost of freedom. Fortunately, it seems like everyone dunked on this slop so I doubt this will catch on. People are sick to death of mean-spirited franchise entries, so the horror Pooh stuff has been consistently met with eye-rolling, if not outright derision. I see where the creators are coming with it, though. One, you've got the "finally 21!" binge-drinking effect with people now finally being able to do with Pooh whatever they want; and two, Winnie the Pooh has become somewhat of a secondary Mickey Mouse to Disney, so there's a sort of righteous artistic pleasure in smearing shit all over one of Disney's captured ip banners. You saw a lot of that when Steamboat Willie went public domain, and it'll be a thousand times worse when Mickey Mouse proper passes into public domain.

Red shirt Pooh is still Disney's, and none of the secondary characters are in public domain (like Tigger). I'm pretty sure a lot of people immediately got popped for Tigger merch because they thought everything was up for grabs.

New Zealand, the country that believes it should dictate what is allowed on the Internet world wide and will demand IPs of people who watched a shooting video to jail them, has shown again that they are a joke of a country. They lost a 103 million dollar ship, the first naval loss at sea since WWII, by crashing it into a coral reef (another link). Ironically they were conducting a seabed survey at the time. All 75 people were safely evacuated, with 3 suffering minor injuries, to Samoa.

Some video game news for next stream if you're interested. 343 Industries, who took over halo after Bungie went off to do Destiny after Halo Reach, has re-branded as Halo Studios. This is after the continuous disasters that has been their games and the firing of their former CEO and other studio heads a year or two ago.
Halo Studios is also switching to UE5 because they can't be assed to figure out their own engine.

I don't know if you're not American, but I can't imagine the idea of the government showing up in rural America and telling you to get the fuck out going well. These are the kind of people that will go "we'll be fine," at best or "fuck off our I'll shoot you" at worst. You would have people actively shirking the government officials running in to attempt to save them, and then instead of picking up the pieces after the event you'd have additional people getting stuck in the chaos because they were trying to get more people out.

In addition the issues in NC/TN were unprecedented. No one was expecting the mountains to crumble until they did. I was not following the reporting leading up to this, but i feel like i was hearing more regarding Georgia and Florida since that was where the landfall was happening.

It doesn't work very well for archiving slideshows on TikTok, though. For that you'll need to use the above methods.

Totally agree with that, which is why I am bemused by a lot of the other social media coverage which tends to be all about how FEMA is deliberately leaving muh heckin whyte community to rot and arresting honest citizens who are just trying to do off-road YouTube adventures save their neighbours lives and how Kamala Harris could have prevented all this but didn’t lift a finger, or that it’s a one-world ZOG weather control plot.

You live in a beautiful, rural, remote part of the country, with few rules about where you can and can’t build your house. You voted for small government and cheap gas. Remember self reliance? The price of freedom.

But there are some common sense things that could have been done to help people help themselves. There is the old VHF weather alert system. That would still work when the cellphones are down, but of course nobody listens to it any more, and half the transmitters are broken due to underfunding. Same with the river height sensors that the lady mentioned in that video - it could give you a few hours notice to get to high ground, but they have been broken for years and not repaired. Maybe a few leaflets or TV ads about dealing with extreme weather events. That’s not a huge amount of tax money saved by not doing those things, and arguably a lot of lives could be saved. That’s supposed to be what government is about but Americans always seem reluctant to pay for stuff like that in case some other group benefits from it.
