Hurricane Milton

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
It has been raining long enough and the humidity has been high enough for long enough as a result that I have to re-do all the caulk on my windows and doors. I hope people are okay and all that, but hopefully one positive from this big bastard rolling through will be things finally drying up a bit holy shit. I feel like I've been living underwater for a whole fucking month.
i will never understand why anyone would willingly choose to live in florida.
Honestly it's not that bad compared to Australia.

For those who don't understand Florida geography:
The whole state is flat as a pancake. Florida is basically a giant sandbar with most areas at sea level.

That means almost everywhere can flood catastrophically including far from the shore.

I think the highest point in the Tampa Bay area is 34 feet above sea level. The largest part of the area that's more than 20 feet in elevation is just a long hump going vertically down the center of Pinellas County from Tarpon Springs to Clearwater.

It's only a few miles wide. It will be an island during the worst of the flooding. There are some emergency shelters in that area located in schools and community centers, so Tampa bros may want to head there.

Because my family doesn't live in Mexico and I don't give a rat's ass about them or any specific people outside my family in Florida. I'm thinking of my family, but I'm sure your prayers are going out to each and every Mexican/Floridan too since you're such a saint.

I wish we could just sacrifice people like this to Poseidon to calm the storm holy shit

Not really, Florida has been raped by hurricanes since well before the white man stepped foot on it. It’s shitty that it’s happening now, but it’s like being suspicious of a tornado in Kansas or an earthquake in California, that where those things happen. If it’s any consolation, at some point eventually, San Francisco is going to collapse, and there’s a decent chance it happens in some proximity to an important event.
Bret Weinstein had this guy on his podcast who was a beaver expert, he talked about how San Fran might end up on fire someday and explained how introducing/protecting beavers could help avoid that. So if they never get around to beaver repopulation then I guess San Fran's going to have literal flaming faggots at some point.

I've seen models where the storm surge pushes into rivers and canals, it's really nasty.

Current models (the ones I don't trust) show large parts of Tampa being flooded. I think it could be quite a bit worse than that, and it's already really bad.

Edited to add:

Yeah, disagree about this bit, maybe just leave.

Southern Florida kiwi here, I’m staying since my area is far enough away from the cone that I think I’ll be fine. I live somewhat inland too so I’ll just sit this one out. I feel that the non-Florida kiwis sperging about how all of Florida is in danger are exaggerating things a tad bit.

Stephen Root played a character named Milton in a popular comedy called Office Space.

Just make sure you have a week or two's worth of water and food in case things decide to go down there anyways.
