I've been lurking since I've created my account but I feel compelled to post as I'm intensely worried for my mom who lives just outside of Tampa. We've pleaded and yelled at her to head up towards Orlando which, while not that much better, is safer than direct 10+ ft flood zone. She refused to go with my grandparents who lived right around the corner from her up there for whatever God forsaken reason.

As any other floridaman, I tend to not get too fussed over hurricanes especially since I'm not currently in state. But my dad, family, and people in this thread helped smack me that this is just a different one to the usual and got me to call her, redoubling the efforts to make her see sense. Thank you guys for compiling info here. It's probably too late for her to evac now and she's hunkering out with a family friend further from the shore.

I hope my mom's gonna be ok. Sorry for the long blog post but I wanted to tell the fellow floridakiwis that are weathering this one out near St. Pete, Tampa, etc to stay safe and I'm hoping you guys will be ok too.
