I've definitely heard that gay people are more likely to be lefties than straight people. Just google, "left handed gay." (The top results looks like pop science and surveys so take it with a couple pinches of salt.)

I'm not sure about any left handed connections to trans people though. But really, who cares, it doesn't make them special even if it's true. It's just a little (questionable) factoid LGBT people might find a little interesting.

i also thought she had that on a gofundme because i can't be bothered to read posts all the way through, so that contributed to my bafflement

That Act only states sex offenders have to give their status themselves and states must make a database readily available. It does not state businesses have to use that database or demand someone specify they are a sex offender.

The "Ban the Box" proposal getting ground here in Cali would mean employers cannot ask a prospective any questions about their criminal record or conduct a criminal background check until after that person is given the job. The idea is current conditions give rehabilitated criminals an unfair disadvantage in finding employment.

It's not on the ballot yet but it is coming under fire from businesses and sane people for obvious reasons.

Actually prohibiting businesses from doing that, though, would thwart the federal law, and doing that would be preempted.

If a state is required to keep such a database, prohibiting anyone from actually using it for its intended purpose is not consistent with the federal requirement that it exist.

I think California's lawmakers could potentially justify it by saying the proposition doesn't prevent potential employees from voluntarily providing their criminal records when they're supposed to, like in the case of a sex offender.

Besides, since when has California ever given a shit about what the feds say unless it's about furthering welfare?

I think a lot of people are still getting taken for a ride by Trans Lifeline. Sure, they chimped out on their official Twitter account, but it's all just online drama and the rat king will excuse basically any bad behavior because something something white cisheteropatriarchy. Greta was invited to speak at the White House earlier in 2016. A lot of donors barely ever look at Twitter, especially the bigger ones. It takes a while to burn that kind of good will (although I have no doubt Greta and TLL will manage to do so).

That makes no sense. A clean police background/working with children check is a requirement for many jobs and there's no point in encouraging people who won't pass it to apply. It just wastes everyone's time.

There would of course be exceptions. Like teaching jobs, or police departments. As far as I know the Ban the Box measure won't apply to those and even if the diehards think it should there's no way that'll ever happen. As it stands, if the measure passed then it would only be for things like if you're a restaurant owner and you need a new host you can't ask any applicants if they've ever gone to jail.

They don't have to give a shit about it, but they'd have to do without the federal funds that are contingent on complying with it, and they might give a shit about that.
