Eh, don't speak so soon. Thing about these nighttime storms is that it's often hard to tell how much damage has been done until the sun comes up. Plus, the hardest hit areas are typically the ones that are least visible to the outside world when the storm actually hits. If there's no electricity, no internet, and no cell service, how are you supposed to tell the world that your shit got rocked?
Unlike the rest of the South where most families have stayed in the same area for the past 300-400 years, most Florida families literally moved not even 50 years ago.

Military buildings hold up great against high winds, but flooding is flooding. NAS Pensacola had to do mass evacuations to Fort Benning in Georgia during hurricane Katrina. When they got back, the water line in some of the barracks had hit the 2nd floor and there were alligators and snakes all over the place. I haven't seen it mentioned yet but a lot of the death monsters that stay in the swamp end up wherever the flood waters end up. If you wouldn't wade around a Florida swamp, don't wade through a flooded Florida suburb.
I spent the first 40 years of my life in Florida and was only impacted by one Hurricane. They are a lot like MidWestern Tornados in the sense that they may be common but seldom effect the same area twice.
