Hurricane Milton

Just saw several blinding blue flashes of light outside (not my neighbor's). Probably someone's generator went kaput? Haven't had active electric for eight hours now. No thunder. Heard 'bzzzt' sound.
A lot of people aren't smart enough to turn off their main breaker when connecting a generator to their system. This can result in two things, Linemen getting zapped while trying to fix the grid or Fried generators.

Seems like the tornados were worse than the main storm. I’m a little disappointed.
Eh, don't speak so soon. Thing about these nighttime storms is that it's often hard to tell how much damage has been done until the sun comes up. Plus, the hardest hit areas are typically the ones that are least visible to the outside world when the storm actually hits. If there's no electricity, no internet, and no cell service, how are you supposed to tell the world that your shit got rocked?

How does a person settle down in a state like Florida with constant hurricanes? Wouldn’t you be worried about your stuff being destroyed constantly?
Unlike the rest of the South where most families have stayed in the same area for the past 300-400 years, most Florida families literally moved not even 50 years ago.

I remember watching documentaries in which they question if it's worth living in these places with constant storms and other natural disasters.

It’s the same question you can ask to people who’d settle in the far north where blizzards, polar vortexes, and snow storms are common.

The only perfect climate you’ll find is Mediterranean. A nice blend of hot and cold, aside from earthquakes which are usually brief.

Tropicana Field (home of the Tampa Bay Rays) roof has torn off.

Just a day prior, the Trop was designated as a National Guard base by Ron DeSantis. Apparently more sections of the roof have ripped off leaving the first responders venerable.
Who would've thought a paper roof wouldn't survive a hurricane? Lol

Given that I’m fairly confident that CENTCOM isn’t run from a plywood double wide, I don’t think they care
Military buildings hold up great against high winds, but flooding is flooding. NAS Pensacola had to do mass evacuations to Fort Benning in Georgia during hurricane Katrina. When they got back, the water line in some of the barracks had hit the 2nd floor and there were alligators and snakes all over the place. I haven't seen it mentioned yet but a lot of the death monsters that stay in the swamp end up wherever the flood waters end up. If you wouldn't wade around a Florida swamp, don't wade through a flooded Florida suburb.

There's a lot of reasons to live in Florida, especially the gulf coast. They have the nicest beaches I've ever seen in the US, and the hottest girl you can think of from your home town is a 6 in Miami. It's California for people that hate Californians.

I spent the first 40 years of my life in Florida and was only impacted by one Hurricane. They are a lot like MidWestern Tornados in the sense that they may be common but seldom effect the same area twice.
