I can think of two notable cases of lolcows impacting gaming in a massive way:
* Spoony sperging on E3 about X Com becoming an FPS, which lead to X Com being proper made along a resurgence in the TRPG genre. Also lead directly to site member and former Channel Awesome member LordKat trooning out.
* Jim Sterling providing inspiration for Five Nights at Freddie which became a cult horror/lore sperging game and started an indie horror wave.

Are there other examples? I don't refer to usual video game industry lolcows like Kojima.

Spoony legit did the world a service there. His sperg moment was not just awkwardly funny, it basically brought back to the forefront squad tactical games from a long exile.

Less impacted on games specifically than media spawned of a gaming franchise, but lets not forget that Chris Chan's persona was written into a character in Sonic Boom.

Could he really have had an impact on it through? Civ V was already in development and 2K probably saw the hype for that decided to dust off the Xcom franchise and give it to Firaxis. I'm not into TRPGs so I have to ask what kind of resurgence it created because the resurgence seems to have been for isometric stuff in general (CRPGs, games like Transistor) and not for TRPGs as a genre specifically.
I didn't know Jimbo had anything to do with FNAF either; guess he wasn't as respectable back then as I thought. If old Jim was enough to inspire FNAF, I don't want to know what his current form Jimbolina could inspire.

Some of my own contributions are also suspect but here they are:
-Totalbiscuit (who IMO can't really be considered a cow) made people and dev much more aware of FOV sliders, optimization and graphics settings.
-The tumblr feminist crowd (Sarkeesian, Zoe Quinn, etc) solidifying gaming as being eebul and misogynistic in the mainstream media.
-Game journoscum as a whole creating the idea (and proving) that they're perpetually offended, infinitely incompetent, useless pricks.
-Yong Yea (is he a cow?) voicing Kiryu in the Yakuza series

If you lower the standard a bit, DSP is obvious. It has been shown that DSP was used as a justification for dumbing down game mechanics
I'd agree with including him though he is just an easy example of a retard playing games rather than the main culprit.

Civ 5 doesn't really count as a TRPG (unless I'm confusing it with another series) while X Com was pretty much dead until the spergout. Jimbo is responsible for doing a review on a previous dev game and plugging the idea that the 3D models looked horrifying like a cursed animatronic doll.

It's surprising how Sarkeesian ended up not affecting much, she inspired indie gender politic games that quickly died out and Sweet Baby games ended up doing a superior grift job.

LTG brought a lot of people into the FGC or at least made them awayre of his existence via his multiple round fights with Viscant, Punishere (a massive Chun-Li fan and man afflicted with yellow fever) and SMUG,all of whith he lost badly after shittalking someone, and the "You should kill yourself now" rant. I literally only found out about the FGC in college because of the Viscant shit being in Crowbcat's fighting game video in 2016, right before the eportsification started.

Yeah but couldn't it have been 2K seeing Firaxis' potential and giving them another turn-based IP to print money with? The old XCOM's fans and its modding scene haave been around since its release so I don't think 2K was unaware of its potential. Did anyone from 2K / Firaxis confirm Spoony is what made them think about a new XCOM game?

Wow, that's poetic justice in a way because he's known for crusading against shovelware but inspired the game that birthed an entire genre of shovelware.

Yeah she never grew her grift to anything beyond a cottage industry while SBI has made it big business. I think she was the first one who proved that such a business model was successful though. It boggles my mind that she got to speak at the UN though.

Wait what?! How does an autistic temper tantrum turn that fatso into a tranny?

Angry Joe is the reason The Game Awards have a Best MMO category now
Angry joe also had that disasterous interview with Xbox's Major Nelson where the Xbox One came out looking like a piece of crap and Major Nelson being a liar for saying it would be too difficult to remove the kinect and always online requirements

Lordkat kept always harping on it and using it as the reason he failed in a lot of areas even though anyone could tell all those endeavors failed for a plethora of other reasons. Its more just a funny joke to say he trooned out due to it too.

Let's Plays (including video and eventually Youtube Let's Plays) pre-date DSP by a long shot. Phil's only real innovation in that niche was putting out such an enormous quantity of extremely low-effort videos.
I'm not sure how else you could do it though when YT capped videos at like 10 minutes or whatever.

Personally I choose to believe that DSP was a pioneer and the grandfather of lets play (also the father to one successful cat son).
Further, Phil claims that he influenced a then unknown pewdiepie to do lets plays, which if true means he was responsible for Pewd's success and eventually the adpocalypse, meaning that he is in fact one of the most influential figures on the entirety of youtube.

In any case his God Of War gameplay was used at the one game developers conference more recently as an example, which means he is officially registered in the annals of gaming.

This fucking guy right here. Look at this smug, smiling, Donkey Kong, Mario and Zelda-inventing prick. I hate you, Shigeru Miyamoto.
