Lots of European cars have frameless windows and electronic door releases. Teslas also have crumple zones. Also, what does this have to do with the bus?:

The only reason busses are so big is that they basically HAVE to be the largest possible size to maximize the expensive asset - the driver. If they're self driving, there's no driver cost, and you then want to make them "about right" size for 80% of the trips, and have a lot more of them. Jitney cabs (or share taxis if anyone has been where they exist) have a huge advantage over a bus - they fill up pretty quickly and then the driver doesn't have to stop until the first person wants off. This is actually almost optimal road usage for persons per vehicle and speed per person.

That's also why in an area with a lot of families, cars are more road space efficient than buses because they have zero headway and most of the vehicle space is used for passengers.

A lot of urbanism is just childless bugmen waging war against families.

In terms of hurricane evacuations, one of the practical reasons why you should take your car is it means that it doesn't become scrap.

In Hurricane Harvey, the Texas World Speedway (which was to be shut down to become a new subdivision) became a graveyard for thousands of cars flooded out in the hurricane.

All those chucklefucks talking about insurance, this is what that amounts to...thousands of flooded-out cars get brought by other vehicles to a point some 70 miles away, get assessed by insurance agents (who drive there in cars), and then after assessment go straight to the junkyard, also by other vehicles, then the insurance money buys new cars (or at least ones from the used market).

This is what "don't evacuate by car" gets you, you spend an enormous amount of resources and continues to perpetuate the industry you hate.

Of course, evacuating by train is a stupid idea because even assuming double tracks, assuming ways to turn around, assuming that they get the logistics to mobilize every commuter train in the southeast, they're going to be running empty trains for ~250 miles from Tallahassee back to Tampa.

Look at those stupid carbrains stuck in traffic trying to escape a hurricane:

Bro they just hate you and want you to die.

There’s a veneer of false intellectual/moral superiority, but I guarantee if the headline was about how the freeways got everyone out they’d instead be lamenting that more people didn’t get stuck.

The European Commission tweeted a graph showing the percent change of road deaths in EU countries from 2019 to 2023:

Guess which country had an increase in road deaths over the past four years?

Someone tagged Jason asking "what happened in the Netherlands?" and he blames it all on old people riding bikes:

and handwaves it away because "cycling extends their lives":

The paper Jason links (archive) does not show that the increased road deaths are due to more old people cycling:
1728665798929.png
The graph just shows that the Dutch population is aging. The total number of cycling fatalities is fairly flat at around 200 deaths per year.

However, the paper does recommend that everyone wear a helmet:
1728666138561.png

Also note that the paper's data ends in 2019, but the EU chart above starts in 2019.

Jason clearly didn't read the paper but that doesn't matter because his fans bought the deflection:

Vehicles that look cyberpunk AND make retards on reddit seethe? Elon is retarded but damn i like the new tesla stuff
It looks dumb and is dumb but is somehow less stupid than trains. The best part about it is bus routes are one of the easiest things to automate since you already know the path and conditions day in and out. Running smaller more frequent trips makes everyone happier (Compare getting on a bus every 5 minutes to 15 or 20 in total trip time). You have additional layers of redundancy that most mass transit doesn't support. It's pretty much win/win over the current paradigm. So of course they hate it.

It looks dumb
they look sick. Self driving busses makes sense, since they are essentially on a track already and from what i've seen if they train the cars on a set path the self driving capabilities get way better.
When I was in san francisco I already saw fully self driving taxis so the cybercab thing also isn't too crazy, and it looks cool.

Weirdly enough I feel like if Musk did create some sort of Tesla train they would be even madder because it's not about the idea, it's just that Musk is the one having them. Also it's worse because trains are something they like and they see it like a weird form of cuckoldry where Elon is tainting it like he's fucking their wife or something.

The only way they'll admit anything is good is if it was nationalized as they mentioned so much. If Kamala created a retarded bus system they would be praising it.

Musk is literally building a subway system in Las Vegas and /r/fuckcars seethes about it a lot because it uses small pods instead of large trains.

yeah, but beside it being bad because Musk came up with it, it's also bad because what if one car breaks down?! then it's going to hold up all the other cars!

or what if one car catches on fire?! then everyone in the tunnel will die from the smoke or the fire! we all know how unreliable lithium batteries are!

not praising Musk mind you, but these r/fuckcars people seem to always ignore the idea of comfort and the fact that the perfect public transport will never exist.

The capacity argument is also really dumb because the only reasons why the Robovan has less capacity than a regular bus is because it is a smaller vehicle and because all passengers have their own seat.

Musk also said that with self-driving cars we won't need parking lots anymore and can turn them all into parks.
Apparently getting rid of parking is bad now:
