It warms my heart to see everyone in St. Pete pulling together. Duke sent me a text today saying service should be restored NLT Tuesday 11:59PM. I hope it's sooner but it's fine.

My job is remote and I've been purposely telling my manager that I have spotty cell service and low battery. Told him today that I might have power Wednesday. These people had me working up to 4pm Wednesday because we had a client go live which I'm the lead on. Despite the fact I literally had everything wrapped up and left a detailed contingency plan for my team, they still expected me to be working up till landfall.

Even if I get power today, fuck em. I'm taking a three day vacation next week. The world will keep turning and I just got my paycheck early since the bank holiday. Let's get lit FL kiwi Bros, we made it and are so back.

People have shit on Desantis, a bit unfairly due to his shitty attempt to go after the Trumpalufugus.

That said, the man seems to be a very competent administrator. Hopefully if Trump wins he finds a place for him in the Federal Government. I could see him being an absolutely exceptional Secretary of the Interior or even State Secretary. Of course, Florida has no term limits. He could probably end up Governor for Life. Might be the best ending for him.

It really does go to show how at the granular level Democracy works really well. When people can actually see their representatives on the street and see the immediate results of their policy, they can make far more informed decisions about their capabilities and weaknesses. Desantis has had to deal with some major earth shattering natural disasters thrown at his realm by the heavens and he has always come out large and in charge. That is a pretty good test of ability. The Feds get to sit on their mountaintop in heaven immune to the consequences of their decisions and inaction, and if shit goes south just blame the perfidious governors.

Desantis has had to deal with some major earth shattering natural disasters thrown at his realm by the heavens and he has always come out large and in charge. That is a pretty good test of ability.

I was wondering why the course of action between DeSantis and North Carolina was so different, and why NC seems to be more willing to lean on FEMA (it’s not like NC hasn’t dealt with hurricanes before, just not the way that Helene has impacted them).

Also, for anyone interested who has power, On Patrol Live (formerly Live PD) will be filming in two different spots in Florida this weekend. Both are on opposite sides of Tampa, but they still experienced Milton as a Cat 1, and probably experienced some tornadoes on Wednesday. It may be interesting to see what damage comes up. They have their cameramen film earlier in the week as well.

Naturally what really matters will not happen in front of cameras. It will happen in closed meeting rooms and non-public phone calls. The stuff that happens at the highest levels of administrative government that nobody will ever see.

Which is why its important for a King to go out among the common people after he is done with all of that to physically show he is with them in their hour of torment.

This is basic fucking politics, and its something the national Democratic Party and the National Republican party have forgotten. Politics is partly just sales. DeSantis, if he was better at the sales-y part, would be the R nominee right now and I could vote for him with confidence. Instead there's the IMO guaranteed loss ticket of Trump-Vance. It's not too bad, I just need gas for the generator to keep my crap cold and phone charged, so we'll find out this weekend how fucked my area is on power. The good news is that it isn't always noticeable, but you can tell the flooding is receeding. Putting my faith in the Florida sun and the easy in-easy out soil. Very glad my neighborhood won with only broken tree branches and flooded backyards instead of flooded houses.
