I'm sure whoever came up with 'poor people deserve nice things too' had nothing but good intentions, but these entitled assholes who insist they deserve nothing but the finest of brand-name empty calories use the phrase as an impregnable shield for their audacity.

i remember in the 80's and 90's it was actually a thing pushed by the replacement SNAP program because food should be more than bland nutritional yeast with water. the idea is to have a rounded meal plan per week with a few things to look forward to now and then to avoid depression, provide variety, and a sense of normalcy for someone that is impoverished or has unstable food/shelter/warmth/family/security situations. much in the same way giving a make up kit or a football or art supplies or something can be a mood stabilizer, mood-improver, and help boost self esteem and confidence when otherwise every other aspect of home life is isolating (unable to go out with friends easily, unable to spend money they don't have, limited or possibly anxiety inducing home life, worn and mended clothing that was cheap to begin with that might make someone also feel equally worn and threadbare, et c).

when i was sent overseas during my first deployment, food was something to look forward to and also had some reminders of home (chili mac, fajita chicken, chicken and rice, whatever that pork sausage riblet thing was in the red-brown gravy/sauce that came with beef jerky and apple strudel) when each day was working in a fairly unpleasant environment. usually once a week or so we'd get fresh food or be able to get snacks at the PX, but DFAC wasn't a thing until coming back from patrol to one of the larger green zone bases or the airport or something.

i can criticize people for begging for snacks and treats on top of getting government assistance and almost purposefully making bad choices for their budget or "how-to-be-poor". but much like i can't criticize someone begging to get work clothing/shoes, i can't in good conscience criticize someone wanting a treat now and then or something like movie tickets or a KFC meal deal or whatever.

it's the demand and entitlement that is terrible. it's the inability to make rational decisions to improve their situation that is terrible. it's using unfortunate situations to guilt others into supporting your lifestyle and it's using kids as convenient props to do it that i find angering.

I've lurked in a bunch of threads about notable e-beggars for a while now, and after seeing how aggressively some of these people demand money right this second, I realized that Twitter e-beggars actually have a lot in common with incels. I know that might sound crazy, but take a second to think about it:

-Both groups display a sense of entitlement and/or a victim mentality. E-beggars feel entitled to donations or support from others without offering much in return, while incels feel that society or women "owe" them sex.
-Both blame external factors for their problems. E-beggars attribute their financial problems to the economy, society, or being part of a minority. Incels blame women, societal norms, or genetics. Neither group can accept the fact they are at least partly at fault for their problems.
-Both turn to the internet to seek validation. E-beggars use social media or crowdfunding to ask for money, while incels congregate on forums/subreddits to vent about their struggles and connect with others in similar situations.
-Both are dependent on external validation and echo chambers to reinforce their beliefs. E-beggars rely on donations and develop a dependency on the generosity of others. Most incels rely on communities of like-minded individuals (ie other incels) to validate their worldview.
-Both groups often feel alienated from mainstream society. E-beggars feel marginalized due to financial hardship, while incels feel socially isolated because of their lack of romantic relationships.

Of course, with how particularly rampant Palestinian crowdfunding scams and spam are on the site at the moment, some of their blind supporters believe that Tumblr's motives and timing of posting this now is very suspicious.

"Why is doing the bare minimum so hard to do for so many of you" asks the woman trying to guilt you into financing the lifestyles of degenerate beggars. The total lack of self awareness from any of these people is astounding. But I'm 100% "people who put in zero effort unless that effort is towards making excuses don't deserve nice things."

The ebegging regulars love variations of this line. Polissa, Kyttie, Mem and others are fond of repeating some variation of poor people deserve x any time they're challenged on their shit spending habits.

What they don't seem to realise is that besides maybe the extremely wealthy, everyone has to make careful choices about what things they treat themselves to, and they only do so after their obligations have been met first.

So yeah, the average working person "deserves" to doordash food in every so often if they want a little treat, but a sensible person realises they can't do that all the time AND buy themselves the latest tech gadget. And they can probably do neither if they want to have a big vacation at the end of the year. It's the sort of tradeoff most of us figure out in our teenage years during our first part time job. eBeggars just demand both. Or ask for money for one item and then move into begging for money for the next.

More importantly, it doesn't fucking matter what you "deserve" if you're not looking after the people and animals in your care. I couldn't imagine doing shit like grifting for food deliveries while my kid was sleeping on a trampoline, like Kyttie did. Or blowing my money on quartz crystals while my pets remained malnourished like Polissa did.

It's the difference between poor people and grifters. Plenty of people have limited income and no real way to drastically improve their financial prospects and are in that situation for things outside their control. Mem has been given life changing amounts of money multiple times and pissed it away each and every time.
