Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

When someone's collection gets to the point that they need additional shelves to hold it, how much do the shelves cost compared to the consoom items? Here's one example of someone's Love Live! figurine collection with multiple shelves:

View attachment 6506136
The shelves in your picture are probably $20-$30 max, not as egregious as choosing to collect pieces of plastic that cost a few hundred dollars to begin with.

Most popular displays for anime collectors are the billy bookshelf and the detolf, both from IKEA, because they are relatively cheap, widely available and easy to customize.

The billy (without additional glass doors) costs $79, a little less than half the original retail price of each of the more expensive scale figures on the bottom shelf of your example picture. Billy also has the option to add glass doors, which are $65 each, adding up to $209 per display, a little above the average cost of a single scale anime figure nowadays.

Detolf (it has a new name which is escaping me rn) is a bit cheaper than a Billy with doors, but they are also smaller.

There are also collectors (usually gunpla) that buy massive displays that cost thousands of dollars apiece.

This is legitimate nightmare fuel.
Anyone who hasn't watched the actual "trailer" should take a look. It seems like a parody.
They even got some DEI in there. I do know one black woman whose space looks like white girl's taste, but she would never have Nintendo merch! I can only think of one black girl I knew in college who was into video games and she was a weird little otaku troll. What is this bizarre unrelatable world that's being created?

Nightmare?
WAKE UP IT'S TIME TO LEAVE DREAMLAND!

As stretched out and weirdly "dystopian and non-nintendo" as this alarmo ad is the motion sensor function and other functions like it getting louder if you don't turn it off is kind of a funny/neat gimmick. Had this been advertised any other way it probably would be received better. I already used video game OST shit as my phone alarm though cranked to max volume settings and still somehow sleep through it half the time these days so it won't help my ass for shit.

And it's not even a video game song, but a cover of an anime opening from.... SIX YEARS AGO? God corona and all this stupid fake politics shit I've had to put up with people forcing down my throat just stole time away.
I've had this as one of my alarms for 5 or 6 years now, insane.

Why do these toy people have to be so creepy? This looks like this guy is on the sex offender list.
Reminds me of how last night Iw as trying to find video footage of the walmart skibidi toilet blind box figures and isntead mainly just got consoomer type channels that know nothing of skibidi toilet doing obnoxious commentary over shit.

Looking it up again for examples I instead was greeted by Chris "The irate gamer" Boores' schizophrenia demon/alternate personality, Steve from minecraft.
This technically isn't as consoomer-y as some other vids i saw but it's worth linking just to showcase him fumbling commentary and becoming increasinly unhinged sounding throughout the video. I'm never going to fully understand what the fuck was going through his head when he decided to make an alternate account that's gimmick was just "Steve from minecraft reviews action figures" but it seems it's taken a toll on him mentally.

...Either that or this is how he expels the demons accumulated from ghost-doctoring.
At least his reviews are shorter than most of these despite his mad gjibbering.

GenX'ers have an insatiable thirst for old BMX stuff. Bikes, frames, wheels, parts, equipment, magazines from the 70/80/90's and modern "limited" reissues. Their backs are failing and dropping $3k on a GT or watching their worn out VHS copy of RAD is the only way they can cope. I already can't tolerate the "angry geek" persona that's been done to death in YT but the "unhinged while trying to be funny and annoying like a 2-year old on a sugar rush" persona is worse.

The doll community is freaking the fuck out over a Means Girls x Bratz collaboration that sold out in under three minutes. MGA Entertainment, the toy company that produces Bratz dolls, are releasing the dolls in stages. Cady Heron dropped on October 3rd and sold out in 2 minutes. Reeeeeeeeeing and seething ensued.
Now, just yesterday, on October 17th, the next doll in the collaboration, (Regina George) released, and also sold out in under 3 minutes.

The autistic gals, non-binaries, and fags were no match for the lightning speed captcha solving abilities of the bots that the scalpers were using.

Scalpers bragging and celebrating about the easy profit made from the Bratz consoomers in their private Discord servers and on Twitter.

Reddit seething in response to the scalpers.

More Reddit soying. Many in the community are swearing that they will never buy from MGA again because of this.

The Regina George doll is currently selling for $204.99 on eBay.
The MSRP was $60.

There are two more dolls in the collaboration yet to be released, Gretchen Weiners and Karen Smith. It will most likely be a similar scenario with them. The fanbase is pissed they were not able to buy the previous two dolls, and will likely be even more pissed off when the final two drop and they are similarly unable to purchase them (these final two are being sold together in a two pack for $100).

I fucking hate scalpers just as much as the next person, but they are inevitable these days, and can be found in almost any hobby. Instead of screaming at MGA , a toy company who does NOT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THEIR "community" AND WHOSE BEST INTEREST IT IS TO ALLOW THE SCALPING TO GO ON SO THEY CAN CLAIM AFTERWARDS TO SHAREHOLDERS, "Hey! We sold out in 2 minutes!") the most effective response is to instead REFUSE TO BUY THESE DOLLS FROM SCALPERS AT SCALPED PRICES.

Scalpers will quit buying up the dolls if people quit freaking the fuck out and FOMO buying them at 250% the price.
In these situations, the best thing to do is wait for the dolls to drop in price on eBay or for the scalpers to hopefully eventually have dead stock that they are willing to sell at a normal price, but NO. That could take months! YEARS!!!!!! I need my Mean Girls x Bratz doll NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW

More outrage from Youtubers:

(this first one is super kino, angry fag doing a voiceover for his Bratz doll OC that he angrily shakes at the camera as he rants that he couldn't buy Regina. He even got his Mother to help him try and beat the bots):

Usually n the past this would work but with shit the last 8 years or so, especially the last 3, it seems once a scalper hones in on something they will just squat on it and let it rot and fester forever. Not sure if it's like that with these stupid fucking bratz dolls in vaguely similar outfits to movie characters, but shit like old beyblades go from dirt cheap listings in the millions to just like 4or 5 500 dollar each listings in the span of a few hours to like a week. I agree to never pay these fuckers under any circumstance, but it frequently becomes a battle if you're looking for an item to find the one sane listing that's slightly above or below msrp instead of grotesque "speculator values"
Look up "once a man cobra commander" for a similar shit show nightmare. I somehow actually got that one used for cheap, but for most (myself included) getting it from any official source was impossible. Untied to that shitshow, I actually had small on and off quest trying to get a figure from some small artist group the last 11 years after a similar sell out/scalpfest thing happened . A few days back I found a sanely priced new in bag copy that while a few dollars above the original MSRP of $25 in price was nowhere near the $90-$200 used listings that clearly were bought with the intent to resell. if you pay attention to ebay you'll sometimes notice shit that slips through these fuckers radar and it's always cool when it does. Sometimes though it takes years.

I always think that people who have this FOMO mentality don't have self-control. Like, just buy something else to cope with not getting that item instead of engaging in what seems to be a highway robbery or make a childish rant on how you didn't get your toy like a spoiled child. Scalpers will always exist as long as suckers are willing to pay anything or even give one of their kidneys to the black market.

A lot of the time the toy is only worth something to them WHILE it's big and trendy, they want it because everyone else wants it, if they wait a while for it to go down in price it also won't be HOT HOT HOT

All the more why I find these people laughable. It's still the same item even if it's priced at either $10 or a thousand. These people chase instant gratification and social media attention.

I dont know much about dolls, but I'm pretty sure you could just....remodel already existing Bratz dolls to look like the Mean Girls cast? I've seen people use Monster High dolls to make things, same with Barbies, but I guess that takes the patience to learn skills that these people just do not have.

as a general rule if your hobbies include shopping, dressing up, and vlogging about shopping and dressing up... you probably don't have any creative abilities or the desire to foster them
