Rachel was always a hardcore liberal and was one of the centerpiece talents for the infamous Air America radio network. Tucker initially brought her into MSNBC back before Tucker got radicalized as the token liberal on his show and she made a big splash given her connection to the failed Air America network. Also, Dan Abrams didn't like her/want to give her a show and Olbermann fought hard to give her Scarborough's old time slot when he moved to the mornings. It wasn't until Abrams left and was replaced with others who saw her as Keith without the baggage, that led to her turning on Olbermann.
