It appears Cuba’s power grid has entirely collapsed.

The immediate cause appears to be a failure of the largest power plant, but rumors on the Cuban subreddit (mostly Cuban-Americans who have fled) say it is actually the culmination of a chronic fuel shortage caused by the collapse of Venezuela, Cuba’s main international ally and fuel provider.

Reports are that power is slowly coming back online, but the situation is rapidly evolving and it’s unclear if the underlying shortages are being addressed. If they are not, it is likely the grid will remain unstable.

lol nope, this is Cuba. They will just tell the Russians or China to deal with it, and then probably try to fuck with whatever help that eventually arrives.. Assuming this isnt another three gorges gonna collapse any moment now piece because Cuba has probably been dealing with rolling blackouts since forever.

Nah, the CIA will "save" them and encourage them to depose Miguel, and then they can move in and install a new dictator who's more in line with the Western power establishment.

South Africa is going through a similar situation. Power grid poorly maintained by the crooked ANC since the 90s. Basically I think the situation in Cuba will mirror the situation in South Africa, where they will fix this specific issue, but over time these events become more common and eventually the entire country gets progressively more strict power rationing.

There are parts of South Africa that only receive 8 hours of power a day, and have been like that for over a year.

On the other hand, South Africa doesn't have to deal with the degree of sanctions Cuba's been under for the past 50+ years. I would expect China and Russia will be able to provide them with the necessary replacement equipment and the technical know-how to solve the grid's problem just to spite the United States.

South Africa only gained a functioning power grid in the first place because of white involvement. See all the other countries in the vicinity that decided they could do fine on their own without whitey keeping them down such as Zimbabwe for example.

Cuba on the other hand appears to have fucked up on their own as a function of having a communist government, because say it with me people, COMMUNISM DOESN'T WORK

The Chinese and Russians really don't have much interest in Cuba anymore. They've been able to assist Cuba any time up until now and haven't.

my shitty hottake is we should buckle up for a very strange future should the USA be truly devoted to downsizing it's global empire. You know the neocons won't just let go, and as a result Munroe Doctrine 2.0 could make the western hemisphere a very interesting place.
