Does anyone know if Reveddit or any of their competitors archive threads or archives deleted comments on their own servers? It's a service that can be used to monitor Reddit threads for mod removed comments (not user). You used to be able to enter any thread or user account and it would give you a list of stuff that got removed. It stopped working once Reddit blocked the free API access, but I think you can still use it if you have your own dev API key for Reddit. Not sure how Reveddit or other competing services work in the backend. Is there anyone familiar with these services that knows more about this?

Try Undelete instead. Reveddit doesn't work for anything posted after Reddit changed its policy on API access last year, Undelete does. That said, right now Undelete seems to be down (I'm getting SSL handshake errors trying to connect to it) but that's probably a temporary problem on their end. Give it a whirl in a couple of days.

Came here for the feature, and I'll say this: probably fifteen years ago, I was hanging out on the 4chan text board /prog/ and they were doing some hero worship of him. I decided to try emailing him and relaying the conversation back to them. I forget how (it was a long time ago and all email accounts associated with that identity are long gone) but he managed to switch the conversation over to how kids should be taught in schools and he made a wild pivot to saying sex education should be practically taught by the teachers demonstrating stuff on the students. It's pretty much the only thing I remember from that conversation all these years later. There might be an old /prog/ archive posted somewhere with some of it pasted still.

These people conspire together to seize power in a community that for more than three decades was self-sufficient, self-managed, on autopilot, and generated a platform which all technology runs. I don't think general consumers understand, but all the websites and applications you use besides your desktop computer do not run on Apple or Windows, they run on GNU+Linux, which is 100% open source and has been in active development as a community project touched on by thousands of independent moving parts, including many companies from across the entire world throwing in single line edits over decades.

This kind of weird amalgamation of interests attracts weird people, and none are weirder than Stallman, who's GNU foundation not only developed some of the most important computer programs ever written, but penned a doctrine for honesty and transparency in free (as in freedom, not as in free beer) software development which has led humanity to the point where you can pull out your Android phone (running Linux) anywhere on earth and connect to a remote server (running anything, but probably linux) and engage any other person on the entire planet.

Drew DeVault is a nobody. He's contributed to a few big projects but is mostly a millstone around their necks. He hides in little chat rooms and switches between #die-stallman and #gooning channels, stroking it to madoka magicka while trying to kick some fucking frumpy autist who he's jealous of.

Exactly and well put. A power grab is what it really comes down to. These are the same types of nobodies who worm their way into OS projects and get founders to either implement their witch hunt enabling rules or force them out with spurious claims... but so often the latter after the former.
