I put nearly 100 hours into Infinite Wealth. It just sort of scratched that itch at the time when I started playing it.

Hello again, lots of stuff came up in modding news this week that I thought was interesting so I wanted to make a post even though I wanted to wait a bit longer to have an even longer update but here goes anyway.
It'd be sweet if the modding general thread was more active. I'll have to start poosting fun shit I come across there.

So Metaphor: ReFantazio is pretty darn good so far. The story definitely went in a direction I wasn't expecting, but I'm down with it and the aesthetic. Kind of gives me Berserk vibes which is always a good thing.

How did Infinite Wealth turn out? Every time I looked in the Yakuza thread people were whinging about Yongyea or how Ichiban is apparently demasculated, but that doesn't really answer my question.
It sucks in pretty much every way. Some of the issues of the previous entry are alleviated, but the fights are still a slog, the plot is one of the worse for the series, the side activities also suck and the conclusion is a wet fart.

Anyone have any recommendations for RPGs you can creatively bust? I don't mean like over leveling content, I mean like autistically poring over equipment stats/character builds to theoretically achieve things like a 100% evasion rate. Just saw FFBE is getting shut down next week, and one of my fondest memories was kitting out Lightning to dodge tank and counter kill Gilgamesh at a time when he was the hardest thing in the game, and she was the only character that could pull it off.

Or another game I played where one party member made it so you couldn't be killed as long as you had >1HP, and another character had auto-regen at the end of every turn to make an infinitely sustainable party that hit like a wet noodle. This lack of damage was counteracted by creatively incorporating poison into your damage cycle.

Or shit like FFXI where Ninja was intended to be an elemental/caster DPS class, but creative players turned into one of the best tanks in the game, Dragoons into a high DPS healer, and Red Mages into the premier solo class through creative kiting.

I'm a faggot who seems physically allergic to coding (have tried learning Java, C++, Unity, Godot, Python (at least 3 separate times) and cannot get the hang of any of them, even fucking Scratch when I was very young) but has wanted to make a game for as long as i've been able to breathe.

Do I have any hope for getting into game dev or should I just give up and try to recruit the least-crazy game dev I can find (who can actually code) to my cause? From what I can tell non-coding is strictly limited to concept art/writing material, which I don't want to do, or marketing (which I am incapable of doing).

(Posting this here so as not to shit up the actual game dev thread for game devs about game dev discussion. If there is an actual game dev who frequents the actual game dev thread and doesn't mind, I'll move it there.)
Apparently Game Designer is a position you can have. However, you'll need to learn and understand what makes a game good or bad, have solid reasoning as to why and knowing what kind of game you want to make.
A lot of people will shit on Dustbinborns for the overtly political message and hideous character designs but few actually criticize the absolute montrosity that is the nonsensical gameplay mixes and the poor controls. Likewise, people praises Fromsoft's games for the gameplay yet refuse to acknowledge that there is problem with certain aspect of it, namely the uselessness of heavy attacks outside of boss fights in Elden Ring (until recent patch that buff the heavy attack speed across the board) and ACS Overload mechanic in Armored Core 6 where every AC vs AC battle is just a race to fill up that stagger bar, then unload all the damage in one go once staggered.
And you absolutely need to have a solid idea of what kind of game you're trying to make. Often time I ask people what kind of game they want to make, 9 out of 10 they'd say "I want X but with Y" without knowing why. Note that there is absolutely nothing wrong with trying to fuse different elements that you like together into one thing but you should ask yourself "Does it fits with what I am trying to achieve?" first and foremost.

Not sure if it fits what you're looking for, but the SaGa games have characters progressively level up their stats based on actions and gears used rather than straight level up. Theoratically, you can build a character who's intended to fill a certain role into pretty much any other character archetype if you're willing to push them to it, say a character's starting stats are that of a glass cannon, but you can absolutely turn him into a tank if you gear them with heavy armor, let him take damage during battle and he'll have a chance to level his HP and defensive stats up. I'd recommend SaGa Frontier 1 and 2, Minstrel Song and Scarlet Grace/Emerald Beyond, with the last 2 a bit more unconventional in it's gameplay loop.

That sounds pretty sweet honestly. My introduction to the SaGa series was Unlimited back on the PS2, and it was so unbearable that I wrote the entire series off. Literally one of two games in my life I've ever returned (the other being a horrible PS3 RPG called Last Rebellion).

Yeah, Unlimited was way too "out there" even for SaGa's standards. That said, there should be a handy starter guide for it now which should help alleviate it's obtuseness nature should you choose to try it again. Plus the OST is pretty sweet too, a distinct difference in tone and style from the rest of the series alongside Frontier 2.

Anyone got suggestions for a decent pirate game? Been playing a bit of AC: Black Flag and Rogue, and I was curious if there were any other decent pirate games; Sea of Thieves sounds interesting, but I was looking more for a singleplayer offline game, if possible.

"Sid Meier's Pirates!" is a pretty fun game. Unfortunately, the PC version doesn't allow you to change the wonky keybinds, maybe it supports controller? I have fond memories of playing it on the hexbox back in the day.

they're an acquired taste, and a bit underrated. underrated soundtrack as well.

this is what krauts pay tv loicense money for:

please get a better cpu for the love of god (or faster internet if you mean downloading)
Has nothing to do with either of them. The site where I am currently installing it has a maximum downloading speed of 500kb/s. Anything above that is a subscription.

After learning more about No More Room In Hell 2's retarded development I have more to add and I am mati.

2016-2017: Development on NMRIH2 begins with a 300k grant from Unreal Engine
2021: Game is pretty much done and will be released soon. Trailer looks great and there are 3 maps complete already. 2020 build and no this isnt just heavily edited garbage, they had also uploaded a few gameplay videos of buggy but mostly feature complete play through segments
2022: Within days of releasing they decide to partner with a publisher which is later known as Torn Banner Studios who is most famous for ruining chivalry 2. They claim that this will let them add way more content on release
nmrih2_announcement_delay_01.jpg
2024: They go silent for 2 years then start coming out with videos and release the game.

It turns out between 2022 and 2024 torn banner studios made the fucking GENIUS move to... SCRAP EVERYTHING AND START FRESH ON UNREAL ENGINE 5. What did this mean, well.

Confirmed features in 2022 build.
  • Weapon attachments
  • Same inventory and ammo caliber system from the original game.
  • 3 maps
  • Kid zombies
  • Maps with main and side objectives all viewable from a tablet
  • Limited hud from the original game.
  • All of the basic features from the original.
What we got.
  • No weapon attachments and limited weapon selection.
  • Basic inventory system with slots for items instead of the OG weight based system.
  • Ammo calibers removed and simplified.
  • All your objectives now show up as annoying red blips, tablet totally gone.
  • No kid zombies, NO INFECTION, no suicide
  • 1 map and despite their claims it has little to no variety
  • Just as buggy as the UE4 versions gameplay videos.
I am so fucking mad at Torn Banner Studios fuck these retards. This has to be one of the most retarded moves in video game development in years.

TLDR: Almost complete game ruined by publisher, decided to scrap years of development to rush and sell a test build made in 2 years with missing features for a simplified audience.

Edit: Most complete video of the 2022 build.
