Are videogames for children?

Found a video from about a year ago about Current Year games; more specifically, why they suck and why older games are still so popular. Bit dated, but I think it still holds up, frankly:

Didn't this thread used to be pinned? Anyway:

2K Announces Project ETHOS, a New F2P Third-Person Hero Shooter with Roguelike Elements

I sense the arrival of another game nobody wants.

I am not that big into video games, so maybe I am just an idiot...but of all the big companies that had their own consoles back in the day like Nintendo and Sony and the others who are still around, why do none of them EVER make new games for their old systems? Can you imagine how much hype there would be behind a new AAA NES title developed from the ground up and released by Nintendo themselves? Or a new PS1 game from a big-name developer that used to make PS1 titles? I mean if the homebrew/indie scene can produce titles for these consoles that look like ultra-professional highly polished masterpieces can you imagine what a new AAA game from an actual AAA company might look like?

The possibilities are endless and the technological requirements have advanced so much since the days of the NES and SNES and PS1 that making a new title for these systems is child's play compared to game development for modern hardware so it's not like the value they sink into the project would even be that exorbitant. A new vintage game console title release from a major company would be headline news across every single video game publication and with how popular the "retro" gaming hobby has become (and how tired gamers seem to be with the modern gaming landscape) you can't tell me their number crunchers have come back and told them this wouldn't sell well. Nintendo fans are almost nothing but fanatical consoomers these days.

This isn't really something I would be interested in personally, but I am just really really curious why the only companies that seem to be making games for retro consoles are these tiny independent developers and the closest thing to this that has ever happened is the mini consoles.

Anyone here play Sand Land? I've been thinking about playing it but I'm not sure if it's actually worth it, so I'm curious if anyone here has thoughts on the game.

i cant stand modern YouTube, like I get these companies act like faggots but these YouTubers just beat a dead horse and continue to make ragebait shit for ad revenue,I don't care for that style of content personally

Diplomacy Is Not An Option

Fun and challenging little game, bonus points for the chuckles on Steam from all the seething at the difficulty.

Anyone got any thoughts on the standalone version of DayZ? I was planning on picking the game back up on PS4 and giving it another go; don't know whether to drop $40 for the physical edition or just $28 for the digital version, however.

Hello again, lots of stuff came up in modding news this week that I thought was interesting so I wanted to make a post even though I wanted to wait a bit longer to have an even longer update but here goes anyway.

I personally found a prototype of this game, technically its is a demo but it is still different to the final game, someone has found a prototype for the game and out has already been dumped online, but it says that it needs to be re-dumped and the disk looks different to mine.

a rayman 2 prototype was found, pc version.

finally another earlier version of farcry 3 that isnt a multiplayer prototype or completely unplayable due to missing assets and files.
heres the other one that was found thats only 2 days earlier, not as new but still interesting.

a prototype of unreal tournament 2, the reason why Im posting it is not because the game is good but because the prototype was found to have full keyboard inputs including hotkeys. (im just guessing that meant at some point it was going to have keyboard support I dont know very much about xbox games lol I just post news.)

idfk what this game is but its an interesting FPS game from the screenshots I have seen, maybe one of you will recognize it

some modding news.
been following the one below since it started development and it has been in development for over 2 years, the person making it had a stop gap in development so thats why the maps dont look the best as he was learning how to make animations and model, etc.

klling time got a remaster, dont really know if this is modding news considering its a re-release but I'm gonna put it under a fan update for a game that is really old which still fits the mod title so ill just leave it.

some turbo autist is trying to mod spec ops the line lol.

minecrafts aether mod got an update
this was also announced have fun anime fags
another RLCraft Modpack release, this one claims to be 2 years in the making.
fuck it ill just put this here this is lay of the land and its basically just teardown minecraft lol, still being updated as well.
speaking of minecraft clones heres a Minecraft RTS game.

some fallout mods
This video shows a test that MC Tammer usually posts regarding him experimenting with new weapon ideas, this one shows off telefragging in new vegas.
heres a mod video for fallout 4 showing some new mod releases this past week.

half life mods
somebody has re-written the engine code for half life 1 to be more like the original WON release, Im aware that Xash3d exists the reason why it isnt popular is because it uses leaked source code from the 2003 half life 2 leak iirc.
this is a half life mod? game? idk all I know is its developed in unreal 4
this half life mod from 2003 is still being updated for god knows what reason lol

Finished Terminator Resistance and jumped into Metaphor, am enjoying it quite a bit so far. Nice to see Atlus do something different with the Persona formula.

For all its faults, Ass Creed does a good job making you not immediately throw up when exposed to middle-eastern culture. Media in general make them out to be more-than vermin. Dune, Mount & Blade, Diablo, AC. The middle-eastern aesthetic is cool in a vacuum but once you're exposed to them in real life as opposed to games, it's it's complete dog shit.

Remembering that AC started out hugely muslimcoded inshallahmaxxed surprises me every time I think about it. That shit wouldn't float today.

How did Infinite Wealth turn out? Every time I looked in the Yakuza thread people were whinging about Yongyea or how Ichiban is apparently demasculated, but that doesn't really answer my question.

I'm a faggot who seems physically allergic to coding (have tried learning Java, C++, Unity, Godot, Python (at least 3 separate times) and cannot get the hang of any of them, even fucking Scratch when I was very young) but has wanted to make a game for as long as i've been able to breathe.

Do I have any hope for getting into game dev or should I just give up and try to recruit the least-crazy game dev I can find (who can actually code) to my cause? From what I can tell non-coding is strictly limited to concept art/writing material, which I don't want to do, or marketing (which I am incapable of doing).

(Posting this here so as not to shit up the actual game dev thread for game devs about game dev discussion. If there is an actual game dev who frequents the actual game dev thread and doesn't mind, I'll move it there.)

I enjoyed it and definitely got my moneys worth. If you're playing it with English VA you're already doing it wrong because it's been bad since the PS2 days, so Yongyea's shitty Kiryu (and it is shitty) shouldn't even be a factor.

The gameplay is much better than Yakuza 7, but the story falls apart very fast and is one of the worst in the whole series, and the side content is very meh. It's a game of extremes!
