I could be wrong but the feeling here is just fundamentally different. It doesn't feel like one of those events where I like what I'm seeing simply because it's good optics and will help get the candidate I like elected. This just felt like a cozy bit of levity in the middle of an increasingly bitter political environment where a former president, and likely future one, decides to lend the dignity of his status to a group often viewed as the bottom of the totem pole. It's hearwarming in a way that transcends politics. It reminds me of the catholic practice of washing people's feet, where someone with social and financial standing demonstrates that what they have doesn't make them any better than anyone else. Expressing humility like that has universal appeal to the average American.

I work in marketing and, most of the time, this is the result of a very blunt marketing algorithm.

If Johnny Barleycorn goes on Jimmy Kimmel to promote a children's book about poop, people will go to Amazon to buy it. Amazon sees it's popular and the algorithm pushes it for everyone else in hopes that they will click on it, see it's a hot item, and buy it. In some consumer product spaces, this kind of FOMO and mob mentality can facilitate sales.

I love this. May I also point out that there was a certain sudden time, maybe a decade ago, when it became totally acceptable to show people vomiting on screen? Before then it was implied vomiting but now full-frontal vomiting is all over the place. It's getting the populace used to paying a streaming service to show them actual (well, stage) vomit.

Nothing is ever guaranteed but I feel more confident about my guy winning this election cycle than I've ever felt. It's night and day compared to 2020; the nation was in ruins due to awful people using a crisis to force half the country into house arrest and fanning a cult-level hysteria; riots were raging across the nation and Trump really didn't have the constitutional authority to do anything about any of it but he still got all the blame heaped on him. He was clearly cracking under an unfathomable amount of pressure(realistically I don't know if any leader could take that kind of heat). The fun of 2016 felt like a distant memory and going into election day any hope was in spite of impossible odds. Everyone knew he could overperform the numbers and he absolutely did but it just wasn't enough.

2024 is night and day. The opposition are the ones having to shoulder the blame for all the nation's problem and Trump is not only free to take the fight to them in a massive capacity, he's 99% on his A game. He's tempered out most of his worst tendencies with 8 years of experience in politics, he's got focused messaging and a VP who's 100% on board with his platform, the numbers are clearly reflecting this. We've even got an RNC proactively working to stamp out any dirty tricks. Everything we're seeing in the polling tracks with what's happening on the ground.
For my part I'm getting in my vote as soon as EV starts. The mood I'm seeing is not complacency in any capacity; It's a base that is fired up and ready to absolutely swamp the polls when election day rolls around. The early voting numbers only reinforce this.
