This leads to some "wrong" decisions that are pragmatically correct in the long run.

There is a thing called Judicial Economy. It dictates, among other things, they offer him a plea deal to try and save the time and expense of a trial.

Yeah, they got him dead to rights now that the warrant is confirmed good (as if there was any doubt), but if they can still save some time and coin, they will.

I don't particularly like it either. He's such an asshole, I wish they would take him to a jury verdict and ask for the maximum, but it is what it is. What I want to happen doesn't cause me to ignore what's likely gonna happen.

Ultimately, I think @Potentially Criminal is right.
We're likely headed towards a suspended sentence and probation.

Now, where it'll get REALLY interesting is whether this fuckwit can make it through probation without being the fuckup he frequently is.

None of that would affect the prosecution's willingness to give him a plea deal. The judge probably has a dozen other cases just like this one on his desk, and if having to watch the cokestream made him feel anything, it probably just made him want to get this thing over with as quickly as possible. For the prosecution, if they denied plea deals to everyone who ever called them or the police corrupt liars, then there wouldn't be hardly any deals left to give.

It is extremely rare that the prosecution in a case is invested enough in it to forego a plea deal and force through a trial, just to deny the accused any possible mercy from the courts. Florida did this with the Parkland Shooter in order to try for a death penalty, which the jury declined to grant. Rekieta's crimes are not nearly as heinous as Cruz', nor is he really notorious enough to justify that kind of investment.

The system will simply roll over and crush Nick without a second thought, the same as it's done to every other degenerate druggy in his situation.
