Can anyone help me find more information on this? Ever since Trump was shot in Pennsylvania I've been trying to find out details on Obama supposedly making propaganda legal but the only thing I can find is sources saying the bill was about making the things we broadcast to other countries accessible in America, the sources are dubious of course but I can't find anything that talks about propaganda being legal in the US. If anyone can find any sources on this subject I would really appreciate it because I've been going mad trying to find details about it.

The Smith-Mundt Modernization Act of 2012 removed the provision of the original Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 which prohibited the propaganda produced by the State Department and the Broadcasting Board of Governors (which includes outlets like Voice of America) from being targeted towards domestic audiences. Saying that it "legalized propaganda" is a broad brush. This really just legalized an additional avenue of propaganda. It's not like other US government agencies haven't been propagandizing us already.
