I've found that many journalists and researchers when looking into these subjects often get it totally wrong and end up mischaracterizing a bunch of things. You'd think people whose actual JOB it is to research and find truth in certain subjects would be good at doing just that but nope.

The problem (imo) is that journalists tend to tackle these things with some outside angle, often implicitly, (whether that be capitalism, 'right-wing extremism', racism, inequality, etc) that doesn't really have anything to do with the subject. That's even ignoring whether those things are correct in the first place. In any case it really shouldn't play a role in the work of journalists and etc.

I read through the entire Telegram channel and the Telegram chat and saw some screenshots from the 'Lulz' Discord server and found nothing that indicates that they are actually a part of the group or engage in those activites.

The Telegram channel came off as completely satirical to me, even making mocking edits of 764 members and the group as a whole.

However the section on the OP with information on those individuals and 'Lulzworthy' contradicts that.
