Preliminary hearing? Are you kidding me? Maybe a prelim means something different in Canada, but in the U.S. it's the initial hearing to determine if there's enough probable cause to take the case to trial. In Nader's case, the prelim should have been held two years ago shortly after Mae first made her allegation.

At the rate they're going, Mae will die of old age before that crackhead ever gets bound over for trial. Actually, I doubt that he will ever be brought to trial. His defense attorney may have gotten the charges dismissed on Monday, which sometimes happens at prelims. I don't often get MATI, but Nader has committed so many crimes and gotten away with them, it's really disheartening.

About fucking time!

I’d hate to have charges hanging over me for years before being able to clear my name. Sure, Nader (via his counsel) has deliberately delayed this, no doubt hoping the case will be dropped, or that Mae somehow disappears, but it still must be extremely stressful for either the accused or their victim to have to live with no resolution for so long.

I know Nader claims he has refugee status in Canada, however it is more likely that he is a permanent resident.

If he is found guilty of the sexual assault I believe Canada will deport him - In Canada, if a permanent resident is found guilty of a crime that has at least a 10 year sentence of imprisonment, this is grounds for removal from Canada (even if he does not get 10 years or more as his actual sentence, the fact that he was convicted of a crime that could have carried a 10 year or more sentence meets the requirement for deportation).

Plus, it would be his second conviction of a crime so I don't think Canada would let him stay.

Fair points but I was talking about how this scumbag has already been legally represented for free, housed in jail for two years less a day, and has likely used the social assistance programs on offer like welfare, and during lockdown, CERB. And let's not forget all the (mostly) free healthcare Canadians are entitled to. He's already cost Canadians a lot of money. If he goes to jail again, that'll be another chunk of change.
