IMO Maher should probably try to remove to federal court under diversity jurisdiction, then argue Florida's anti-SLAPP statute applies under the Erie doctrine in the Eleventh Circuit, something that is currently unclear. Maybe that wouldn't be the best strategy for him but it would be fun to watch.

Or he might just make an anti-SLAPP motion right in the Florida court.

Also this complaint is just fucking idiotic. She's claiming things like "maybe" and "might" and "may" are objective statements of fact. That's pure nonsense. I hope the dumb cunt paid a lot for this pile of trash.

NAL but trying to wrap my head around this.
So $50k in legal fees and another $149,950,000 in reputational damage that prevents her from being an investigative journalist, getting her feelings hurt, and people thinking shes essentially an adulterous slur?
A simple internet search of her already makes her look so insane that nobody would hire her for any serious journalism. There's a drunk video of her already acting like an Aryan loving jew slut. Not to mention her wet bread pussy that she has blackmailed a young man into licking. How could this crazy bitch have any standing over $150 mil in lost potential monetary gains?
Surprised she didn't put "And now I'm not even allowed to continue my dream of flying in Trump's plane any more because of Maher."

Also looking at her oh so professional news website this crazy bitch didn't even replace the stock images in her WordPress theme.

She's a public figure and has to allege actual malice. Claiming a public figure had an adulterous affair is literally what New York Times v. Sullivan was about. It also has to be a statement of fact. Loomer cites one thing, and pastes it into every cause of action claimed.

I think maybe Laura Loomer’s in an arranged relationship to affect the election because she’s very close to Trump. She's 31, looks like his type. We did an editorial here a few years ago ... it was basically, who's Trump fucking? Because I said, you know, it's not nobody. He’s been a dog for too long, and it’s not Melania. I think we may have our answer this week. I think it might be Laura Loomer.

MAYBE. MAY. MIGHT.

Good luck with that.

I think she'd have dropped her panties given the slightest opportunity but I also think Trump can do a lot better than that insane skank.

Does "I think" and "maybe" keep it from being a statement of fact?
this is the full Maher quote for anyone else looking

I quoted exactly that in the very post you quoted. And no, there aren't any magic words that automatically immunize your speech, but in context, it's clear he's speculating. It's idle gossip. No reasonable person would view that as a statement of fact.
She’s looking to pull a low 6 figure settlement out of this. She might even get 7, who knows.
Maher isn't going to settle shit. Neither is HBO unless they want to advertise themselves as a free pile of cash for any lunatic one of their people insults.

If anything they'll pursue sanctions because it's patently frivolous and Florida has a very nice anti-SLAPP statute.

what about "i heard a rumor that.." "anonymous source said..." seem to hear those a lot..sorry to derail

It is all in the context and what a reasonable person would believe hearing those words. There's a reason people use these words. "I heard a rumor" isn't going to do you much good if there's proof you were the one who made up that rumor. "Anonymous source said" isn't going to do you much good if you're the anonymous source. "Allegedly" isn't going to be some magical invocation of sphere of protection when you knew for a fact the person alleging it was an institutionalized schizophrenic you also knew was notorious for bizarre hallucinations.
