He'd have to piggyback on more talented people (like his defcon badges) to even get this chapter done.
Yeah, like I said:
the ONLY time his word and actions will ever have any influence on "the industry" as a whole is if he manages to nepo baby his way into attaching himself at the hip to someone with significantly more sway in an official capacity than he could ever hope to have

That's been his whole entire career up to this point. That is basically how he pushed himself to a point of relevancy.

I'm sure he'd consider it "social engineering", much like how he cheated that one DefCon by pretending he wasn't participating, taking over for an organizer, and leaking all the information to his team. And, certainly, there's something to be said for a mostly talentless hack being able to schmooze and manipulate their way to prestige. There's nothing "honorable" or dignifying in doing so, and it's certainly understandable to attack his character over it, but success is success.

Here's where he's retarded in that, though. He not only admits the fraud well after the fact, but he wants you to praise him and look up to him for being a glorified con man. He let his ego and his own desire for clout get in the way of maintaining the con, and because he personally volunteers so much light on how he's conned in the past, it only highlights how much of a fraud he is with current endeavors. You start to see a pattern of behavior, you make connections.

If you're going to play the long con like he's trying to do, I would think it would be advisable to NEVER give ANY impression whatsoever that you're a conman. Hell, instead of spending all of his money on paying moderators and such, he could try to pay some of these up-and-coming indie devs to work on his game for him, and he could gladly backseat and go full "director" and "advisor" role here. He could even pay a writer to help conceptualize and contextualize his story into a format that would be enjoyable to consume by others, and considering the amount of time he's taken already to get the full version of Heartbound pushed out, the last 8 years could have been used polishing every last detail of that process.

But if he did all of that, he would stop being a conman and become an actual game developer. We can't have that.

Can't wait for videos titled "6+ YEARS OF MAKING, 20+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, FOR THAT?!".
He already inoculated himself with "Oh, it's not for everyone".
Game now is only 2-3 hours.
Unlikely, but if he finishes it, it will definitely be super rushed, super short and super underwhelming.

The question is if he can command his true believers into inflating the Steam numbers.

That's the weird thing about Jason. He cleverly crafted a fake persona but believes in his own lies about being a skilled game developer.
What conman would torture themselves with 8 years of spaghetti code just to admit on stream that they have no idea what they're doing?
The price tag is nothing crazy, no strong drm, it's hosted on a site with an easy refund policy, and none of the assets are stolen or cheap .
The one thing I make fun of him for could easily be resolved using his e-clout and e-money to form a team like you said!

That's where the funny comes in. Heartbound is his actual passion project but he's too much of a degen to make it happen.

Here's to 100 pages to a man who only brought this on himself. There was talk about Mald before this thread was created but his oblivious bad takes on SKG are what drew attention to him. And since then he's been under the microscope in terms of attention.

Mald is also the perfect nickname for him because:
- It's the first part of Maldavius Figtree, making him remember.
_ Mald sounds like Mold with the obvious negative connotation.
- Mald is the third part of "Cope, Seethe, Mald"
- I do see him balding before he turns 40.
I'll jump in and make it Malldo
Because it throws in the degeneracy of our boy rackets into the mix.

Why would someone who is self admittedly 'Not a great writer' make a game the hinges entirely on the writing and storytelling?
Because you want to and think it’s fun would be the honest answer. Mald’s honest answer would be it is easier to make.

I'd appreciate it if Jason could stop speaking as if represents the game industry. Jason worked a low level non-creative job at Blizzard and then released some babbies first attempt indies on Steam. He is not an authority on anything in the game industry. I'd never speak the way Jason does despite having my own semi-comparable foray into gamedev. It's offensive to hear him lean into it with such confidence.
As someone who slaved away on a passion project TTRPG David ripped away from me from a dirty degenerate furry similar to Jason and how much actual work it takes to create something screw this talentless hack seriously game design is extremely hard and takes years and years of dedication and you will learn stuff that you didn't know you needed to know on the journey and it might not go anywhere didn't go anywhere in my case but you know what I'm still glad about the experience.

Just go make a game is terrible advice what you first need to do is have any ability to understand how to make a game if you don't know how to code you should probably start there if you're designing a video game
I designed TTRPG you should have some understanding of how mechanics work oh good amount of experience playing them.
Do you know what happened when I tried to reach out to TTRPG streamers and designers they would demand 5 or $600.00 one guy demanded 2 grand just for an interview I was like seriously and all these people would cry up and down of how bad D&D was but they're not willing to actually help out smaller design teams screw all of these people none of these people support independent publishers they flouts to come out of the video game and RPG establishments ass

Isn't making money off of somebody else's game in exchange for providing money to the devs pretty much explicitly what publishers do? If he's not making money he didn't publish shit.

I think publishers usually do things like advertising and distribution too. Mald's probably more of a consultant than a publisher if anything, but I don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

The first tweet gave him a good advice, of course he is to vain to listen to a valid criticism. I hope this shitty game flops. If the monetization was really designed by him (as I have a suspicion that other people did the work, and he just gave retarded opinions and stamp of approval), it has to be crooked. He has no experience doing monetization, but probably has strong opinions and believes that he knows the stuff (20 years of gamedev experience, baby!).

I actually can't believe he didn't do a 2 minute youtube shorts blackboard course on monetization with most retarded takes imaginable.

if it was a ferret dating sim it would have been finished with 4 dlc expansions and a sequel in development already
Legit surprised it isn’t. There’s a market for that type of stuff. And it pays well.

Or he is doing it for free. And I don’t buy that for a second.

To be fair, I’d pay Mald for marketing. He clearly gets what he is doing in that regard.
Yes, he cracked youtube shorts algorithm, but he was maybe too successful, where many people came to this thread, because his content was pushed so hard by the algo.

So it's a double edged sword, he has now a significant number of detractors, and I think he started to feel some pressure. Let's see how he manages his PR now, before paying him for marketing.
