I know there's Fast and Furious which let civ arms cross the border but no one can explain how the cartels obtained the javelins. US DOD and the Mexican police force are denying the cartels have it but allegedly they used one to bring down a police helicopter. Maybe it's a lie like the IRA and their SAMs. But there are definitely vids of cartels riding around with M249 SAWs and that's not something you can get from an american gun store. Whatever comes to be, the cartels are getting US arms not available to american citizens and our government keeps denying they have them. Something is up.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if arms supplied to Ukraine wound up in cartel hands. But I never heard of them using Javelins. The 2022 incident the article references was not blamed on cartels and was an accident. There was another bad helicopter accident in 2022 related to a successful mission to capture legendary drug lord Rafa Caro Quintero, but this wasn't blamed on cartels and instead on poor maintenance. But the powerful CJNG cartel infamously shot down a military helicopter in 2015 using an RPG (Although some sources suggested they used a .50 cal)

The guy in the article says the cartels bought the Javelin to deal with up-armoured cartel vehicles but this is bullshit. You should see pics of cartel 'monstros'. Basically Mad Max like creations where they slap a bunch of sheet metal on souped-up pickups. But by and large, they seem like complete deathtraps and there are countless vids of them getting fucked up big time without javelins. We're talking things like this:

Cartels get their weapons from everywhere. Primarily the US of course (The Mexican military has also been caught several times selling weaponry to the cartels), but they are always releasing videos and pics of them flexing exotic weaponry from around the world. I've never seen a Javelin or anything like that though. Showing off or using that kind of weaponry would draw the kind of intense scrutiny cartels always want to avoid (aka American scrutiny). I doubt even Ukraine is dumb enough to sell Javelins and stuff like that to cartels because of the liklihood of some dumbfuck actually using them or at least posting pics of them on instagram
