Full monarchy (so not the current "constitutional monarchy" where they're little more than a figurehead) is often just a communist dictatorship basically. Most of the general public were just serfs essentially working for the government (and people often had to pay very high taxes) and had no property rights. No doubt there were based monarchs who were very fair to the people and allowed them a lot of freedom. But that wasn't guaranteed and I suspect wasn't the norm. Unless you can have a dictatorship that not only has a totally based and benevolent dictator but can guarantee every one of his successors is as well then the most based form of government you can have is pure democracy. "The workers controlling the means of production" is homosexual (and a fairytale told by those who want power as it's always "the government on behalf of the workers") but "the people controlling the means of governance" is based. (As in mostly directly, not via "representatives" in an oligarchy.)

If I recall correctly, people would be shocked at how much minor nobility supported Communists during and after revolutions and how many time old Elite families ended up as senior party officials and the like.

So an interesting story about that, if you're game: My contacts within the machine here in NY have been talking a lot and for at least the local DNC, there is legit concern that, given how things have been going, the Donald may be within striking distance of taking NY, and even if he doesn't, the serial fuck-up-ness of NYC in general means the state is likely to continue its redward slide unabated. Adams' entire administration going down in fucking flames has not helped the Dems' chances in November at the local level.

We'll know for sure when the early voting starts to hit on Saturday; if you suddenly hear them lock down hard about how EVERYTHING IS FINE, NOTHING IS RUINED, you know that we're rapidly approaching a crisis point for 'em.

If New York flips red, or even begins a slide towards Team Red, I'm going to laugh. My "friend" who wasn't happy about my Haitians Eating Cats answer, just moved from near Aurora, CO to Albany. She was also quite unhappy about my shit talking New York, but having to hear about how Amazing Albany is grates after awhile. I know I'm the SW Ohio guy, but both side of my family is from New York, I was born in New York, and I've lived more than a little of my life in various places in New York, including Lon Guyland. I'm not going to be impressed with a second or third-tier city in what's become a shit-tier state in my life time. New York would be a fantastic state, but NYC makes sure the most corrupt, retarded, or both end up running the state and it's a damned shame. Upstate and Western New York are fantastic.

I trust Trump to make good on his promises because he has practically infinite money and the only that drives him is his ego. He wants to be a hero for Americans and be known as the greatest president in history. That's all that matters to him at this point. He does anything to satiate his ego - if that means he wanted to be rich or be a ruthless war monger I'd trust him to do that too and wouldn't vote for him - but fortunately his ego revolves around removing corruption in the government and being accepted by the American people as a hero that saved the country.

The left really needs their own Trump. Someone from outside the existing corrupt system who swings in representing what the less insane lefties want, in such a way that it also speaks to moderates and even the center-right. Whether such a being can exist for such a fragmented coalition is hard for me to predict - I really can't tell if they're all so foundationally incompatible and just held together by corruption, or if it only seems that way from decades of uniparty bullshit, much like how the left still labors under the illusion that the right is just dominated by christian fundamentalists.
