The problem I've had with a number of Smash clones is for one, they felt soulless. Nintendo went all out with presentation, while all the others, especially the Warner Brothers and Nickelodeon one; the presentation wasn't there. In Smash, when you hit someone with a strong attack, you damn near feel it; the character looks like they're absorbing the impact, the screen shakes, the dude you just hit either bounces off several walls or goes flying into the atmosphere with the screen shaking and the sound of the impact is heavy. There's none of that, hits feel empty, there's no impact, and doesn't just feel like a rip-off but a poorly made one; even the OG Smash on the 64 felt more alive than anything that has come out in the past few years.
If you can't get the presentation down, you're never gonna measure up, and I doubt any other wannabe ever will... and I don't even fucking like Smash that much, and Competitive Smash Players can hold their head under water.
