Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

As under-utilized and cumbersome as it was, the Oracle game's Ring system was under-rated. There were a ton of Rings to collect and they all had various powers. Like the ability to boost stats, or make cosmetic changes, and there were even some which made the game more difficult for players who wanted more challenge. The only drawback was the gameboy's old controls, menus, and the inability for Link to put various Rings on multiple fingers. If you could do that (and I happened to be very unoriginal) I would say it was, "just like The Dark Souls™". A fleshed out Ring system would do wonders for Zelda imo.
I don't even remember the ring system, I got pretty far into Seasons too. I should finish those. But yeah, anything would be welcome at this point because they really haven't gone very far with it. Our best chance at seeing substantial RPG elements is a Zelda 2 remake, I remember Miyamoto wanted one a long time ago but who knows if that'll ever come to fruition. We're likely to get Oracle remakes next, then I'd bet on OoT or Minish Cap.

I mean, we don’t know how long Zelda was captured for clearly long enough for Ganondorf to physically play in real time all his dungeon music.

They could have been doing anything…
Maybe the trauma trooned Zelda out into Shiek

This one I haven't heard before unless you are playing master mode. The regenerating health enemies are a real bitch and the floating octorocks will blow your cover when wearing masks.
BotW is pretty damn hard. I mean I guess you can just choose to avoid certain enemies, but I wanted to fight those horse guys as soon as I met them and that shit was impossible to do.

BOTW is very hard even on normal at first because of how the systems work. It is very much designed for you not to fight most things for a surprising amount of time and because it doesn’t really path you in how to get to a location, it is fully intending you walk into something far above you and die.

It can be very punishing for new players.

And then you remember you have endless bombs

And then you find out you can snipe everything with bomb arrows while staying out of hit rang.

The weirdos obsession with headcanoning Shiek as a dude when it was clear they were female, to say nothing of the harp, will always baffle me.

I'm gonna press X on the Oracle games and Minish Cap, as those were made by Capcom and I think it's a bit dubious whether they are canon or not. I also don't see why they would remake OoT again since they probably don't need to sell a console this time, and the original game is easily available on the virtual console.

To be honest, I always thought Shiek was supposed to be a dude when I was a kid, even after I knew about the twist that is was Zelda cosplaying. I still find it it hard to see xem as a woman.

I mostly agree, but there were some instances of Shiek being referred to as male, and I guess Shiek looks sorta ambiguous.

I don't find it difficult to see Shiek as female, especially knowing it's actually Zelda. She's either binding or using magic to shrink her tits, and the rest of her is feminine enough, but I see what you mean.

Looking into it, they were actually developed by Flagship, an independent developer who was funded by Capcom, Nintendo, and Sega. They did get eaten by Capcom, though, so I'm not sure what that means for the games.

They're literally on the timeline that Nintendo made. I don't think their canon status is in question.

This might be a hot take considering how glowing the reviews are for EoW everywhere I look, but to me it was kind of a meh shrug overall.

It's a lot like Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks where its got tons of fun novel mechanics going for it but those new mechanics also come with tons of minor annoyances that really drag the game down. My list of grievances in no particular order:

  • The summoning menu is straight ass. Not having a way to make a curated list of your own preferred echoes is terrible and inexcusable given its format. Navigating a menu and having to sort it four different ways constantly is also terrible.
  • Pretty much all of the new soundtracks are generic and forgettable. Same deal like in PH/ST; it has like a couple great new tracks and nothing more really.
  • Latency is still really bad. In fact they made it worse after Link's Awakening (2019). They should've just cut their losses on this and either cap the framerate/resolution or section the overworld into loading squares.
  • Tri is a boring unremarkable assistant that makes Navi seem charismatic by comparison.
  • Summoning combat is finicky sometimes. Sometimes your flock of 5 crows needs a couple seconds to actually hit the thing your L targeting. Getting the sword mode mitigates this somewhat but, like, why can't new way to fight just fucking work? Being a summoner in Zelda game should be the appeal, not something to avoid!
  • Can we have a 2D Zelda that isn't chibi please? I mean its been 5 years since Cadence of Hyrule and that game looked better. More of that please.
Despite the above gripes I still managed to finish it and enjoy it mostly. I just don't see myself replaying it anytime soon much like the aforementioned titles now that the novelty is gone. The speedruns are entertaining at least.

Those Oracle remakes would be just the opportunity to update the clunky old games, and give Link 5 Ring slots. Consider me a lover of Roc's feather.

I'd pay $60 for each game if they also made Mystical Seed of Courage.
I'm guessing that's the cancelled third game in the series? I think Ages was designed to be more puzzle focused, and Seasons more combat focused. So the point of the third game was to balance both Puzzles (Ages/Wisdom) and Combat (Seasons/Power) to get the classical Zelda experience.

They couldn't figure out how to get the password system to work with three games, but that's not really an issue with modern technology since they no longer need to use passwords.

Call it whatever you want then. Point is, it's an excessively simple and blatant downgrade from previous 2D titles like ALBW.
Meh... I like the beady black eyes over the stylized ones to be honest. But that's just me. But Echoes of Wisdom was mostly because it used Link's Awakening engine.

So what's the general consensus on Twilight Princess? I've only ever played through it once a couple years after it came out and generally I remember enjoying it except for the wolf parts but I've been doing a second playthrough of it and I'm finding it to be a real slog to get through. I just finished the arbiter's grounds and every time I play I have to get myself motivated to keep going.

The world feels bland and disconnected from the story. Like the story events don't really seem to have am impact on the characters in the world outside of story events. The Zora feel like their shoehorned in just for the sake of being there same with the gorons. In fact, the first three dungeons feel like they're only there because Ocarina of Time had a forest, fire and water dungeon.

The dungeons are ok. The puzzles are fun, but they all feel very linear and once you figure out where you're supposed to go there's not really much to them. Combat is fun and generally the improved game mechanics are a lot of fun. It's fun running around and doing stuff as link but everything around that just feels meh. The story isn't great. It feels like they tried to combine the stories from A link to the past with Ocarina of Time and kind of failed at it. I always thought the story in that game was pretty dumb. When I first played it, it felt like a ripoff of Metroid Prime 2 and it still feels pretty derivative.

The whole game feels kind of uninspired. Like it was made to address the complaints against windwaker but not much else.

It's aesthetically good (to me, at least).
Yeah I agree there. The game looks really good still, especially with upscaled HD textures.

It's making me wonder if I should give Windwaker another try. I've only played that one once as well when it first came out and I fucking hated it. It was really disappointing after Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. It felt like a tedious, unfinished game and I'm pretty sure Tingle has to be my least favourite nintendo character of all time because of that game but I dunno, maybe I was wrong. People these days seem to think it's good.
