I'll be honest and say that modern politics has always been a game of people going too far, then retracting that overreach when caught doing it. If we suddenly cared about the "spirit of the constitution", there would be far more people being taken to court before Trump. Like with most things, Trump did a thing so that thing is the most horrible rejection of our norms, but no one is looking to stop people from holding office for trying to silence speech or rights to privacy, or undermining our elections by pushing as hard as possible to avoid identifying people when they vote, or forcing the vote to be done and counted on election day, like it has always said.

People have simply claimed too much about Trump without going after others, and I think people just don't care so long as they are able to give a single drop of charity to Trump.

Nah, though I would agree that the Patriot Act had a wholly more negative effect on America as a whole. It's far more in the direction of "oh so now we care about the constitution," and and indifference towards something that was ultimately fruitless. Alternative electors are not a new thing, and I don't exactly see it as some horrible slight to the constitution anyways.

It just sounds to me like pedophiles having guilty consciences for their attraction to minors. Let's take another subject you could be OCD about, like cleanliness and germs. At a baseline, being cleanly is fundamentally good, not unduly exposing yourself to harmful germs is good. There's nothing unreasonable about where that OCD starts from, they just work their way to severe obsessive-compulsive thoughts and tendencies from that starting point that almost everyone feels. A desire to be clean, and to not get sick. But if these intrusive thoughts are a pervasive and consistent desire to sexually harm children, why the fuck would you even develop OCD over that unless there was an innate desire or inclination there in the first place?
