It also becomes pretty irrelevant as soon as you have industrialized space. The weight and volume issues of decent whipple shielding becomes irrelevant when you're making it on the moon instead of launching it from earth, and sweeping orbits with something big and survivable to just eat the debris becomes far less of a problem with the same thing. You already can't avoid it as a problem, as anywhere outside of close orbits is filled with natural debris and micrometeorites anyway.

Kesslers only really a worry in the period before that industrialization, and even then it tends to be pretty overblown. You'll just pay a lot more for equivalent capacity as you have to start armoring the satellites and the like, although what you need to do still varies by deployment height. Natural drag in low orbit cleans up debris in months to years, and even medium orbits clean up in tens of years.

Yeah, we have a shit ton of space junk because somebody let India have a rocket program. All of it will eventually burn up as it’s orbital speed decays

Imagine all the extra shooting stars we get, though. We should let Elon charge money to look at them

India is one of the biggest offenders of space junk, but China is up there as well. It's to a point that some US analysts think they do it on purpose.

That point has never really been addressed. Instead all we get is band-aid solutions like .40 S&W, body armour, and automatic pistols, instead of the holistic solution of asking policemen to spend a little more time shooting targets.

I've read that cop qualification is shooting 12 bullets once a year with 3 plinks on paper counting as passing. It's fucking gross. i don't know if the quals are different for Chicago's tact teams (non swat) but those officers that shot dexter reed fucking mag dumped all over the place.

If you get a wrongful conviction you can always get money from the government. I'd probably have to hear the crimes and punishments first before making a choice.

I wonder about the legal stuff behind this. Is the Supreme Court declining to intervene in the election laws of individual states? That would make sense, since they differ so widely.
