The Penguin 2024 - Colin Ferrell in a fat suit.

I only saw the first episode and it didn't do much for me. It's simply too derivative of Sopranos and it's a case of "Okay, why am I watching this when I could just watch Sopranos?" If you are into clones of Sopranos you might get into this. That's all I can say regarding positives. I didn't care for the 2nd lead either.

  • "Main character" is culling around the nigger and excusing his fuck ups all the time (the nigger just need time to learn, "mentor the nigger" meme)
  • "We are from the same area, muh I can relate the struggle" (civic nationalism rhetorics + nigger sympathizing) + he is a mutt (black dad + latino mom, conveniently that the only "heckn wholesome innocent good" character is racemixed (they added the stutter thing so he doesn't sound like a nigger talking thug, despite actually being a thug)
  • Allegedly Italian family (try to imply homogeneous family) are killing their own (trying to imply that homogeneous families are le bad/evil)
  • The female changes last name to reflect the moms name (Falcone --> Gigante) (anti-man feminism / "remove your heritage" bullshit, I get the context for the show, but it's still shoved in there)
  • The prostitutes are deliberately portrayed to hint at them being trannys (I get some dragqueen vibes from Oz's black "girl") Eve Karlo (Carmen Ejogo) just looks uncanny as a nigger with dyed blonde hair.
  • "The world is bad, not a certain group" and "do bad things to get money for the family" tropes - I get some marxist vibes to the "blame the system" shit since tankies use this type of rhetorics all the time. Also in episode 5, Sophia is doing the "they kept money all for themselves" (her family) speech and then "shares" it with everyone (the "redistribution" communist meme). This is not how a "maffia" would work.. this is retarded!

I just can't watch this. The only reason you retards are watching this is because of the penguin actors suit (that's pretty cool, can't deny the artistic skill to pull it off), Sophia is cute (Cristin Milioti) and it "looks good" cinematically. But it's still pozzed as hell and you just accept it because you are so starved for entertainment.

you're not wrong
someone should've killed her simp and either killed her or far worse when she tried to gain power
the only women who hold criminal power are fucking crazy or have a connected husband

if they really wanted to sell it, she should've killed the kid too
and them trying to act like the organization is italian styled mafia is fucking laughable
should've just been some ragtag group of people since they're honestly thinking of having a woman in charge

This could be applied to everything today for the most part.
I agree, I only sperged out on this show specifically because users on this site seems to "like it" and someone has to remind them that it's still slop. It's still pushing niggers, tranny hints and anti-European sentiment, I don't want people to forget that which they seem to do.

You are what you eat consume!

From episode 6.

I swear there was another tranny scene in earlier episodes, but I must have looked away then (piss break or checking on the food), but I'm pretty sure these are the trannys from earlier in the show. This ticks off the "tranny" checkmark for the show as well. (I can't edit my previous post.)

So its another "The first 2-3 episodes are good just to make you stick around for the rest of the season that is just lame and full of tranny worship"?
No, the trannies just show up in one scene as hookers getting asked questions, really nothing else to it.

However, is a drop of in quality after episode 3, way I put it gets a bit too comic booky/ silly. Won't say it went bad, but didn't stick to the landing, and Sofia became less interesting once she got her own episode, which is a issue when she is the co-lead.

/pol/ autism aside, this last episode was really dragged down by the GRRRLS STICK TOGETHER plot bullshit.

Based on everything we have seen so far it makes no sense for the whore to betray Oz, and it can’t end in any other way than her getting shot to death.
It's because Sofia told her she wasn't the hangman, but her father was and Oz knew, plus the walking out leaving her alive, that won over Eve to tell Sofia where he is hiding. Do agree it was badly handled, however.

Can someone explain to me what ethnicity Salvatore Moroni is supposed to be? I would have presumed Italian like the comics but the actor doesn't look Italian and more specifically, I can't work out what language he peppers his speech with now and then. It doesn't sound Italian to me. Maybe something Slavic? It just bugs me.

EDIT: I think also I'm going to drop this. It started off strong but it's started to wander and the characters have become less compelling to me, especially Isabella who I thought was fantastic in the first few episodes. It's amazing how quickly that could fall off. I'm also I'm sure in the minority but I would have liked a little bit more comic book in this. They haven't even mentioned Batman once, barring the news clip in the first episode. He should be out there, a menacing presence.

Yeah but again I don’t see how it makes sense that it would convince her. “It makes it better for him if you fear me“

Or, you know, why the fuck would Oz go and say to the prostitute he’s fucking ‘Hey did you know the Boss is the real hangman and he sent his daughter to Arkham, fucked up isn’t it? Anyway don’t tell anyone’. Why would he tell her that back then? And in present day, again, why would he say ‘Oh lol btw I lied before she’s not actually the hangman it was her father sorry didn’t have a choice.‘

It’s just fucking retarded for her to expect Oz to tell her that shit, and then get so angry to learn Sofia is not the Hangman that she’ll betray Oz and get him killed after all that time together.

I’m gonna be done with this show soon, don’t know if I’m finishing the season

I agree, it was totally half-assed. I think it was done like that just to move the show forward fast, but it would have been better if she just sold him out for cash. The fact that in the last episode, she left Penguin, and hinted she was only interested in him once he got on top, feels like it was setting that up as well.

It's like they didn't want her to also be a scumbag, but the issue is, the show is all about scumbags, not one good person in the cast and nothing wrong with that. Just felt very disingenuous, for her not to sell Penguin out for cash or her own life/business.

All they had to do was to set it up so directly or indirectly Oz led to the death of one of her girls, and for Sofia to go “Oz did that, but I have loyalty for my people and would never treat them like that and that seems to be your deal too. Girl power?“ for their alliance to make sense.

The problem is that they made it clear that the prostitute was providing Penguin with more than just sex. She was pretending to be his friend, someone close to him. It's clear from things like his giving her way above normal for spending the night with him, from his thinking she would go into hiding with him and his thinking she would need to. He trusted her with a potentially fatal secret when he went to her about killing a Falcone. In fact, taking her into hiding with him would have been a significant risk and cost to him but he was prepared to do it no questions. It's true that he did her wrong by not telling her who really murdered her girls, but he also may have argued with justification that not only would it not have made a difference but that she would have either have to live with the guilt too through doing nothing, or trying to do something and ending up killed as well. And got him killed as a rat to boot. Not saying it was right because he denied her something she wanted to know and she was close to him. But I am saying as a matter of perspective against likelihood of her and him being killed if he did say it, and offset against the way he was willing to risk himself to protect her, I don't give it enough weight.

Meaning that the audience feels bad for Oz and resents her when she (a) tells Sofia that she's just stringing Oz along emotionally and (b) rats him out knowing perfectly well it means he'll probably die.

The only way you sympathise with the prostitute is if you have some kind of "girls together" bias. I'm also not particularly warmly disposed to those who live off the proceeds of another's prostitution, be they pimp or madam. But the main reason is what I've already written.

Reactions: The Nothingness
1) Arkham almost felt too comic bookish for this show. (The crazy people felt theatrically crazy instead of genuinely crazy, if that makes sense.)
2) I was reminded it's CURRENT_YEAR by the lack of boobage in the asylum intake scene.
This exactly, it was is so frustrating, it could've easily been a 10/10 episode if they had her be more slowly psychologically tortured with the inmates being genuinely disturbed instead of cartoonishly violent. That juxtaposed with epic Cristin Milioti nudity showing us how brutal and real the asylum is would've been top tier. Fucking cat ladies man.

I think Sal is supposed to be Italian, but you're right in that Clancy Brown does not do a good job coming off as even vaguely Italian. Eric Roberts was able to do that as well as Tom Wilkinson in the Nolan films. While having Clancy Brown play another DC character may be a nice touch, it seems his options for voice range are how he normally sounds and Mr. Krabs.

Thanks for taking a stab at it. The default would be to assume Sal Moroni is supposed to be Italian or at least Italian descent. He was in the comics and there's the name and he cooks pasta in the last episode - as all Italians do as we know. But occasionally he speaks in another language and I've not been able to catch it. Perhaps his accent is just really bad but it didn't sound like Italian to me.

I know he's meant to be a villain protagonist, but having Penguin leave his brothers trapped to have them drown and he has his mom's attention all to himself kind of undos all the pass interactions we seen with the two. Oz now comes off as Norman Bates or Eric Cartman.

I don't think he put thought into it like that, he just lets his anger get the best of him. Same deal when he shot Alberto Falcone for mocking his dreams, once he fucks up like that, then he finds a way to make it work for him.

Yes, he has da redemptive fahcturs factors buht he's-a da bahd guy in alla these, makes it all the better viewing IMO and almost makes up for the girlbossing cringe.

It's 100% Farsi (Persian), the wife is played by an Iranian-American and it's confirmed by the subtitles, which isn't as left-field as you might think because of the fuckhuge diaspora which gets their slimey greedy criminally inclined CIA-backed mittens into all sorts. Arm*nian would have been a better fit though, maybe Lebanese. Making gangsters multiculti miscegenators is something that makes sense in a comic book universe afterall.
