I feel like most troons, even ones like Gelly that were raised in the cult from a young age, start having serious doubts about it all when they have to start dilating. You see it a lot in various threads on KF. I imagine having to stick a plastic rod in an open wound for hours each day gives one a lot of time to reflect and question their life choices.

Why would it be "over-socialization"? I think under-socialization seems a far more likely culprit. If you're exposed to many different people, cultures and lifestyles, you're going to see that women and men can dress and behave in all sorts of ways and their clothing and behavior doesn't cause them to no longer be women or men. I think that young people who go trans are often very sheltered and naive. Kevin Gibes is a homebody. How can you over-socialize if you only talk to people who respect your pronouns?

This is a misunderstanding of 'oversocialization', a term popularized by Theodore Kaczynski. His concept of oversocialization isn't someone exposed to too many different elements of society, but someone so immersed in and dependent upon the society in which they live that they become neurotic and lose the ability to act naturally and think critically about things, lest they go against the narrative society tells them they are 'supposed to believe'. Yo I'm old but there were a couple of places offering this (for girls) when I was a young teen. It was like a blue collar version of a finishing school, just a couple weekend courses of makeup tips and stuff. There was one at a local modeling agency and one at the community center, probably with different curricula.

I did not go but I did go to a class on how to decorate cakes with frosting, which was also fun and educational.

Also back in the day, when you got those cross-dresser catalogs (also pre-Internet, pulled a Peggy Hill and ordered a catalog of women's shoes for large feet, then got my address sold to adjacent mailing lists) they had so many options for makeup and wardrobe instruction VHS and books. There was even a whole sendaway course on deportment and feminine arts.

I think it is probably true, assuming that this is the first time he is away from his dad and the supportive hug box nest and actually being shocked by the reaction of someone with no reason to lie to him about the situation.

People who grow up in really sheltered situations are nearly always shocked to the core over people not behaving how they expect them to.

And especially in this case because for whatever reason he seemed to think this guy wasn’t going to realize.
That demonstrates that he has either never been clocked or he just hasn’t noticed being clocked before.
This in turn shows that he has never been in a situation which wasn’t influenced by his father.
Be it actively controlled by his father, for example the school having been briefed that if anyone mentions it, he will sue.
Or his father just told him that they hadn’t noticed if Gilly questioned if someone had.

Gilly was even talking about having sex with a man and then to get him to explain the difference.
Only someone with zero life experience would think that is a good idea.

It's so strange that in the age of YouTube makeup tutorials, troons have gotten worse at performative femininity.

Being able to give asspats to every single other cross dresser on the planet and recieve them instantly yourself screwed them over. They can sit at home and get all gassed up on their own egos without the same effort as before. You had to either mail photos of yourself or walk outside for asspats, and sometimes you had to try and fool normies to get them. The bar lowering for who and who isn't trans did not help them either, as they now think they can put on a skirt, grow out their hair, & have a few surgeries and call it a day. Being able to chimp out over people calling out your five o' clock shadow with less consequences doesn't help either.
