I say this often. But, Phil is mentally stunted in a way where he cannot form or understand abstract thoughts/concepts. It's why he can't make jokes or be funny. It's why his go-to is scat stuff. It's why he seems so fucking dumb. Metaphors, analogies, etc....he is incapable of forming his own.

Having this specific issue is a sign of a few mental/social illnesses/disorders.

Agree. Remember that Ree-ack video of that guys car who was saying “this is where the wheels come down and the missiles come out to shoot other street racers”? It was utterly ridiculous. But Phillip thought it was dead serious saying “That’s not legal! You’ll got to jail!”.

There’s no doubt in my mind he’s mentally stunted. Probably from having no real friends growing up then locking himself away first chance he got, which would explain why he’s at the social skills level of a small child.

I’m reasonably sure he can’t see KC are messing with him because of this underdevelopment. Everything is face value to him.

The other thing is he is so full of himself that he doesn't realize his limitations. Lots of people make shit metaphors and they either acknowledge it or just don't do it. DSP is explained to time and time again how dumb his restaurant analogies are and he thinks everyone else is wrong and the analogy totally fits.
