I'm not gonna lie, as a woman, one of the many, many reasons why I really don't want Kamala to win is because I genuinely think we'd NEVER get another female president in living memory. She'd ruin it for us. She is genuinely fucking retarded, uncomposed, and has a terminal lack of ability to command a room or respect. Her as a leader would reflect terribly on women as a whole when we've already got a shitty reputation in politics. Julia Gillard was the first female Prime Minister of Australia and got the job after a leadership coup where bigwigs in the Labor party got stressed over Kevin Rudd's awful polling numbers and installed her as leader 2 months before the 2010 federal election. She won by the skin of her teeth, only managing to form government with the ascent of 6 crossbencher MPs which eeked her over the line after 2 weeks of negotiation where the country was trapped in limbo and everyone wondered if they'd have to have a do-over.

Though Kevin returned the favor, stabbing Gillard in the back just before the 2013 election as she was incredibly unpopular and ultimately Labor got swept in that election. That 3 year term saw the government held at the mercy of those 6 crossbenchers and basically unable to do anything legislatively, constantly risking losing their minority government if they pissed any of them off.

Gillard had a horrible, condescending tone and slow pace of speech that made anyone listening think she thought they were absolute morons. She was criticized a lot by normal people who felt that swapping out prime ministers without the consent of the public was wrong and the circumstances were not well liked by normies.

In a lot of ways she was Australia's Kamala and you're right about how it affected public opinion. I don't follow Aussie politics as much anymore, but I don't believe there's been a female party leader for either of the major parties since Gillard's term and I doubt there will be any for another 10 years at least. People don't talk about Gillard much anymore, but her miasma still hangs in the air.
