You know, I have thought for awhile that the body language in this pic is worth a thousand words. Note how far apart Nick and Kayla are standing from each other, and look how closed off Nick looks from her. I know for a fact if I had had a court date with pending charges for a felony, my husband would be standing next to me with his arm around me, at the very least. Protective, caring, loving even, or whatever. Instead, Kayla and Nick are standing as if they are strangers, equidistant from Kayla's lawyer. Makes ya think!
You reminded me of something: considering that cold, distant body language between Nick and Kayla and the positioning of the lawyer as though speaking to Nick on Kayla's behalf rather than to the two of them as a team, does K's story confirm any evidence that Nick and Kayla actually drove there together or has that just been an assumption/headcanon on our part? Considering his repeatedly exhibited paranoia about farmers, chest-scratching Toe fans, local Scandi prudes, etc. that keep showing up at the qover gang's hearings, wouldn't it have been in character for him to park far enough out of sight that his arrival together with Kayla would be presumed when it's really still an open question?
When Herren's first video came out I always envisioned the funnier scenario of Nick seething in the Mustang alone somewhere in view of the courthouse, smacking himself in the head with spent Galaxy Gas canisters littering the empty passenger seat, just lying in wait for the one time and place where he knew Kayla would be arriving separately in the SUV from wherever she's been living, to accost her out of the blue on a parking lot or sidewalk shouting "WHY WON'T YOU ANSWER MY TEXTS?!?" This would at least be consistent with his and "April's" tweetstorm about the polycule's demise over the weekend leading up to the hearing, which some here suspected to be an attempt to get Kayla to break radio silence, in the later stages of which
"April's" tweet to Nick that it's "I'm beginning to think it's just you and me, baby" read like her reaction to hours of their desperate last-ditch gambit to get Kayla's attention having been unsuccessful up to that point.
That interpretation would also be consistent with Nick and April's Zoom appearance from the Balldo Bunker the following day indicating that the polycule's reported dissolution was due to Kayla's departure rather than April's, and consistent with his NLO chat posts about the mini-fridge sounding a lot like a guy lightening his load in the course of moving out so that someone else could move back in, and consistent with Nick's latest Locals post sounding like a sad, lonely cooking of breakfast for one or two people tops, as opposed to cooking a grand family breakfast for seven (or eight) people like he would have bragged about had it actually been the case.
I prefer this theory not only because it's funnier, but also because, if it becomes widely adopted enough, Nick reads the thread so religiously that he may be unable to resist the temptation to fire up a stream and correct the record about how Kayla has totally been living at the house with him uninterrupted for months of aggressive monogamy to this very day, and our dreams of an impending divorce arc are just that. It's about high time he finally corrects the record!
