Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Complaining about AOTC CG is weird to me because the plot demanded it. There's no practical way to film a huge battle on a desert planet.
I've never complained. It just hasn't aged as well.

They very well could have used more practical effects. Lord of the Rings did. Compare LOTR to the Hobbit.

More real sets, scale models, maquettes, matte paintings, prosthetics, guys in clone armor, etc...

its called star wars, yes, so where is my goddamned capital ship battle instead of this gay shit going on in atmosphere?
We had that in Endor and Revenge of the Sith. Also, in AOTC, the clones caught the enemy with their pants down. Probably because Dooku planned it that way since he and Palpatine were puppeting both sides of the war. They needed to make the clones look essential to the Jedi Order's victory, so having the clones bail the Jedi out would eliminate suspicions and make Order 66 easier.

Too bad we barely saw the ROTS space battle over Coruscant. I would have liked to have gotten more of it.

Lucas should've just sold Star Wars to Toei or Bandai so they could make animes out of the existing SWEU comics. Hey, making cartoons out of manga comics was already a thing in Japan, so we could've seen a Thrawn anime or a Darth Vader anime given how they showed up in the SWEU a lot. Hell, a KOTOR or a LEGACY anime would've rocked. Who wouldn't want to see Zayne Carrick, Cade Skywalker, and their hot bitches in anime format?

I think many of us assume they'll eventually adapt the EU into an animated form. However we still aren't past the dark times where they wouldn't give everyone purple hair and make it woke slop. So we can just wait. Fuck at this point, we may just have to wait until AI is good enough to do it for us.
That's the point-I wanted anime companies instead of Disney, because Jap media is far more resistant to woke slop than the west. Not immune, of course, there is their own brand of woke, but it's not as prevalent or pervasive as ours.

Hell, the kind of nihilism that Black Lagoon had would do wonders for an anime based on the life of Cade Skywalker.

Based but the budget would have to be huge, and big budget-low views keeps killing their shows. 3D is cheap and outsourced. Good 2D is expensive, and they wouldn't have the audience for it to be high budget and not a disappointed in Current Year. Animation is for kids, duh, why waste money on that? Knowing them they'd try with some of the goofier stuff and go "oops! Haha that didn't go over very well did it! Guess we'll never try adapting the EU again!"

As a partial aside, the mouse has a weird fiscal year (they end in September, maybe has to do with the parks?) and will have their Q4 earnings call in a few weeks. Curious to see how their end of year numbers stack against the gains they made in Q3, especially in light of recent cancellation decisions.

Not necessarily compared to other budgets.
Disney was willing to squander $231 million on the acolyte.
A anime tv series or movie is considerably cheaper.
There are a lot of actual box office films made for less than $231 million. If they remove the Acolyte from Disney+, $15MM of each episode's budget can theoretically be written off as a tax loss. Would they go for broke again and bloat the budget for loss purposes on the next show, no idea. I was thinking of hand drawn instead of CGI 2D, which was my bad because that's much more expensive than 3D or CGI 2D.

More fun topic, if they did adapt EU material for a 2D show or film, what's the most obscure story you'd want to see?

Hand drawn is not necessarily that expensive.
For example the Tanya the Evil movie was considered a commercial success with a $3 million dollar box office
Spend about three times that and you would likely have something worth american cinema

I don't think that was hand drawn in the traditional sense. To my understanding Redline was the last completely hand drawn animated film.

"Completely" is hard to quantify though. There has been some level of CGI in disney animated films going back to at least the (good) Lion King. Beauty and the beast has the hasn't-aged-entirely-gracefully ballroom scene... but that was all background stuff.
