Yeah, but if Greta has a later marriage between Marian and Nina (I don't know if this is the case), if Greta can't prove Marian was dead before he married Nina's predecessor... Greta has just possibly disclosed committing bigamy to the authorities. That being a crime and all.

If I was looking for the likeliest reason Greta told Nina 'the gubmint done lost muh divorce, sweetie', overlapping marriages would be it. People who change their names all the time are the most likely to pull this off since it makes records much harder to search.

Something is fucky here, and the something is fucky enough that Greta prioritised keeping the fuckiness a secret above Nina having a safe and legal immigration status. That suggests to me legal trouble of some nature for Greta if the truth comes to light.

The very first page of a Google search on Nina's name brings up interviews she gave about India which make clear that she doesn't fear persecution. She's screwed on the asylum front by her own words.

The bigamy thing is something we've considered before. Not all California counties require proof that previous marriages were legally ended (plus I'm sure a heap of people just don't mention previous marriages anyway).

Given how crucial a green card was to Nina, though, you wouldn't just say "couldn't find the records" two years later. You'd have hired an immigration attorney when you first encountered trouble finding the records.

This "charity" is run by a deadbeat dad who doesn't even support his own child, but instead blows his money on his illegal alien waifu and their dope habits.
