Maybe it's because I'm a Northerner, but I do not understand the reverence for Confederates. I do not agree with tearing down statues and I strongly oppose the Marxist erasure of history pushed by Democrats, but the Confederates were rebels.

1) The country itself was founded in an act of rebellion (the War for Independence is literally a war of secession)

2) In the non-Mountain South it was a popular mass movement. The people of those states voted for it and they were forcedly brought back into the govt at the cost of a huge number of dead young men and mass destruction followed by extreme poverty. If you’re from a place like Mississippi or South Carolina then that IS your side, culturally speaking.

The Taliban started their offensive on May 1, so it was very clear they weren't going to sit around and wait. If Trump's withdrawal plan was followed, the drawdown would have been complete, the equipment scuttled or taken out of the country, and the last planes in the air months before the Taliban made it to Bagram even if there were delays. These dumb fucks actually believed that the ANA would hold out longer - I have never heard a positive word about the combat effectiveness of the ANA from any service member in Afghanistan, but the government expects me to believe that they were entirely blindsided by the performance of the ANA. The Afghanistan withdrawal is squarely on Biden's back.

A lot of that is from Biden's people stopping payments to the ANA/ANSF. The moment they realized they weren't going to be paid, all their cards stopped working, they just walked away and let the Taliban in, why fight for free after all. IIRC, Trump's withdrawal timeline included continued payments to the Aghan military to keep them intact.
