Agreed here, too. As a very leftist feminist type, the last decade or so of watching people burn their principles at the altar of "not offending anyone" or "staying in power" or "getting the vote" or whatever has been a very... baffling and horrifying experience. I've become very bitter when it comes to politics... but that's what happens when you see the party of "women's rights" vociferously argue that women have no right to safety, privacy, single-sex spaces, or even their own words anymore, and that women need to "know their place" and do whatever the trans-identified males tell them to do. Among other things. I'm just so fucking tired of it all, man.
I'm so grateful to JKR for standing up for what she believes in without pandering or hiding or bullshitting. Half the people that are furious about her don't even know why they're supposed to be mad at her, just that the institutions (social media mostly but mainstream news sites participate too) they get their worldview from say they should be. It's absurd.

I think the reason politicos like him don't "get" why people have such strong views about these issues is because they genuinely don't have a sense of right and wrong. Their argument that "it's only a few kids that are getting castrated, why do you care so much?" only works on someone who is entirely self-interested. Watching him seethe over Trump's victory these last few days has been glorious, JKR piling on is icing on the cake.

It's something more insidious than that in my opinion. People like him are mentally stuck in the political landscape of the early 2000s. He dismisses 'culture war talking points' - like the desire not to live in a society in which men feel entitled to spy on women in their changing rooms if they put on some lipstick - because to him, it's like Christian fundamentalists complaining about gay marriage in the Clinton era. It's just a few narrow-minded bigots who are making a fuss about something that the enlightened part of society have long since accepted, and they'll just get dragged kicking and screaming into the twenty-first century regardless. He's fundamentally incurious about new issues being faced in society such as the trans epidemic and he doesn't want to think about it, because thinking about it would be hard and he'd have to face up to unpleasant truths. If you never, ever think about how dangerous and corrosive gender ideology is for society then it's easy to just assume that it's all totally fine. It's just a tiny minority and they deserve our sympathy and respect, and now the grown-ups can go back to focussing on real grown-up issues. Only crazy people like J. K. Rowling would care about such things. Have you seen J. K. Rowling's tweets? Isn't she weird these days? What happened to her?
It's not morally worse than not giving a fuck about children having awful things done to them, but it's harder to fight against in a way. This corruption that's taking hold of society is happening because of well-meaning people who don't want to think about moral complexity, and who refuse to see the truth right in front of their faces. The semi-performative shock over the Trump win comes from the same self-imposed blindness.
