It’s a well know phenomenon that people are better able to distinguish differences in faces within the ethnic groups they grew up in. The cliche that the Chinese all look the same is true for non chinese and other ethnicities may find that European faces all look broadly similar. It’s possible that operating within your own ethnic exposure group means you’re seeing better details.

We should've never started mangling intersex kids, that was the original door opener and is still uncontested by both sides. No, no, no! There are no "intersex" people who need a third category, no one needs a third category.
Telling the likes of David Reimer, "oops, your dick got mangled, you're a freaky third thing now" is not much better than what actually happened to him. Injuries and birth defects happen, and weird genitals is one of the least impactful defects/injuries that can happen to a child. If they're infertile, it'll sink in when it does for other adults, but they'll have a completely normal childhood and a normal-ish adulthood.
The one thing society doesn't currently have is fast social sex change for actually mis-sexed/undiagnosed children -- e.g. boys who were thought to be girls but masculinize at puberty. Ideally there should be no mis-sexed children, but accidents happen. The groundwork for it already exists almost everywhere (except it's used to cover up horrific juvenile crimes).
