Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

Bingo Toys, the company behind some decent Bumblebee movie figures and the Windblade figure are making a Computron They're not too stylized which is nice to see so they could fit on any MP shelf. That is if they're MP scale and not Legends scale like the Craftmans Toys Computron figures.

there's some instances of Japan not sucking total ass at CG
Exiled From Paradise or that Patlabor short from a while back

Earth Granner is a Takara joint and more relevant to TF, that had some pretty decent CG robot
Shinkalion is usually okay at least

Energon/cybertron era of the unicron trilogy had great cgi models and a cool slight cel shading effect over them but fucked up and lazy animation probably due to the fact the cgi models were viewed more as a ay to save money on animation of the more complex character designs rather than anything else. Still it was so unique it kind of became it's own visual style that if some media referenced it you'd immediately know what it's referencing.

Wow, this is the first time I've ever heard someone say something positive about that CGI animation. I don't care about it because the designs and stock footage are good, but most people seem to treat it as the scourge of Transformers cartoons -- super ironic considering people LOOOOOVE Beast Wars. Also that style isn't unique to the Unicron Trilogy; I think some of the Zoids shows had CGI like that.

I feel like the issue with it compared to the Beast shows is even though the CG itself is more primitive in them, they're also more dynamic in a lot of ways in the actual movement. Now which one is actually better looking overall is totally subjective. I don't really have an opinion because I've never seen Cybertron and I don't think I watched Energon all the way through when it was coming out. I liked Beast Wars/Machines as a kid and was into the 2001 Fox Kids Transformers show but for whatever reason I didn't keep up after it and Armada.

but I haven't seen any of those shows in 20 years besides some random Beast Wars episode I turned on to show my nephew where the fuck the new guys from the last live action one came from and he couldn't stop laughing at Optimus Primal's facial animation. Armada didn't have CGI bots did it? I don't remember now but I wonder if the clash with 2D and CG is why I dropped Energon originally because as an adult in modern animation that shit drives me absolutely nuts. They try to make it blend in and it looks like shit. At least back then it was a different kind of jarring it's easier to go back and look at.

from Armada I mostly just remember the toys, the Armada ps2 game kicked ass, and Carlos' shitty ass fake beaner accent that even as a kid cracked me up in the dub. and the end where Galvatron sacrifices himself and Optimus fucks off after they beat each other up in Unicron or something.

You forget that Polygon Pictures, a Japanese CGI studio, animated Prime and the Beast Hunters movie.
Studio that worked on the Machinima shows was one owned by Takara at the time, like 60% share or something so they'd want to cut back on paying for quality. Now they only own like 20% or something. Even the commercials for the revived Diaclone series have been pretty bad. Thankfully the figure make up for it even though they're expensive as fuck. They make Takara's recent MP figures seem cheap.

Apologies for the doublepost. That Toy Guy got the Legacy G1 Optimus.

It's actually not just a plastic version of Missing Link Convoy, and a great degree more poseable.
From what I've seen of it it's around the same degree of posable as missing link but the feet have a bit more range and the wrists/hands are cheaply made static single piece of plastic shit.

is studio series 86 prime worth 100 bucks? i can get one on amazone, but i already own a butload of primes.
i don't own the earthrise one though.

Likely the best one you'll get that isn't MP scale/ engineering.

How long will he be on shelves or online? I'm tight on money right now but I really want to get him
Hard question to answer as Hasbro has been reissuing figures as of late. Even Titans are getting reissues now.

There's a lot of unannounced reissues the last several years on top of the announced ones. Last time I checked Siege optimus is still available post that happening for like the fifth time the last few years. Would recommend him if you don't have him already, even though I really would recommend the cel shaded one more just out of personal preference if you want a (slightly off model) g1 animated styled optimus. If you can get it for cheap that is.

He's also out of scale/too tall slightly to a degree with everything else in robot mode. He should have been leader class but Kingdom rodimus already cemented the commander class has gone from "slightly taller than old leader" to "anything g1 with a trailer post earthrise prime" class now. The one time we got something that wasn't like that recently it was armada optimus who still has a trailer but said trailer is half of a full super mode that doesn't require 4 extra figures to look right like motormaster's menasor mode.
Also don't like how quickly commander class went from 70 dollars to pretty much near 100 dollars but that's another story.

I've always liked Transformers but didn't grow up with them. These days, all new media is retarded and gay, leaving people to revert to shit like Sonic, Transformers, Digimon. Bayformers were slop kino and I've only heard well of the animations/cartoons, but never sat down to watch.. literal kids shit. Transformers One was pretty fucking good though.

Any formerhead media worth consuming? It does seem like it's got a fighting chance to not become gay and stupid unlike every other piece of media, ie. Dbz, pokemon, digimon retelling the original story but including NUKES in episode 2.

Transformers Prime is pretty far from being kid friendly. It's more of a PG-13 show at times.

That being said. Devastation Optimus Prime has been shown off. Looks okay for a new mold.
He's a deluxe. I could see this for a new Power Master Prime with some new engineering. I'm sure you can push that grill in for Hi-Q.

TMNT is still going strong, Masters of The Universe is having a bit of a resurgence as well thanks to the Netflix shows. They both actually have a pretty neat crossover line as well with the TMNT cast in Eternia and a whole slew of toys with turtles in Eternian style armor and MoTU cast members in Turtles inspired armor. I also enjoyed the actual Netflix shows even if they had the whole modern "girl power" slant, but nothing I felt was egregious.

Power Rangers has fallen off entirely since Hasbro took over, but Super Sentai has actually been powering through if you don't mind having to read subtitles. The latest season (Boonboomger) looked to be a very kid-focused season but has actually been a goofy fun time. Speaking of not minding subtitles, if you've never watched the original Japanese version of Cybertron, Transformers Galaxy Force is my favorite TF series to date. I think I bought almost every single toy when they came stateside.
