There's a lot wrong with Veilguard. Everything is wrong with it.

But dear god, it just breaks my heart as a big dragon age lore nerd that EVERYTHING is just wrapped up as "ancient elves." Inquisition wasn't great but I loved how in Jaws of Hakkon you see people basically will a spirit into existence, it becomes an abomination with a dragon, and therefore their god. It has great implications for what Tevinter old gods might have been. You get to read between the lines and feel smart.

"no evanuris are just really good wizards". Its awful.

But Corypheus should have tipped everyone off. Villain who went to god's city and found it empty, who should have answers to all the game's big mysteries, is bumbling around with Tevinter chuds who hate the gays and dies.

What a fucking shame.

They even do something like this with Andraste in Origins. The Old Gods are dragons. Flemeth can transform into a dragon and wants to purify the Archdemon. The guardian of Andraste's ashes is a dragon the cultists think is Andraste reborn. And Andraste's ashes have miraculous power for no real explained reason; which Lellian hypothesizes might come from people's faith in her. For fuck's sake, the series is named Dragon Age.
but now it's Elf Age

Honestly, though, what really prominent North American video games can you remember from that period aside from Doom I guess? I guess I should have been specific and zeroed in on console games.
Civilization, half life, counter strike, quake, daggerfall, morrowind, system shock 1 and 2, Deus ex, baldurs gate, diablo, Duke Nukem, AoE, CnC and many more. America was just as strong as Britain if not more in the 90s pc gaming scene, people just like to suck britains cock more.

Diablo 1 and 2 fallout 1 and 2 might and magic here's mighty magic.
Europeans have been angry that they can't compute with the American gaming market

I might be remembering wrong, but I always thought the High Dragon settling in Haven was a coincidence, and the dragon cult just ran with it because they were off their rockers.

The ashes are not explained, but I thought the writers wanted to hint that the Maker could be real, after all.

I actually enjoyed Outer Worlds despite its woke tropes. It's an inferior version of New Vegas but still comes together.

Consider a woman's breasts. If they are too small, they are not erotic. But as they grow in size, they become more arousing.

However, when her breasts grow to great proportions, they will stop exciting you. This is because your brain no longer percieves them as breasts.

Capitalism, as represented in Outer Worlds, is so obscenely exaggerated, that it no longer feels like a critique on capitalism. Rather - a critique on people. Additionally:

Six companions, half of whom are white, two of which are white men. Phineas Welles is a white man, not a transabled black lesbian woman of color. Woke aspects aside, ToW is extremely based by today's standards, which is a depressing thought.

I recall Oghren mentioned something about lyrium veins in the vicinity, and how it could be why ashes had miraculous properties.
This ambiguity was one of the strongest parts of DAO storytelling for me, very few parts were explicitly stated.

Oh, it is. The Guardian confirms it. The point is more how dragons are connected to divinity and Andraste herself was. While the cult is mistaken, it's not exactly wrong that the dragon and Andraste are both divine in some way.

It is definitely an interesting thought. It just seems like Veilguard connected all those parts in the sloppiest way imaginable.

I remember dropping this fucking game as soon as I got to some aromantic quest-line or something like that I seriously felt disgusted and put it down :story:

I don't want to sound like a centrist cuck, but the more Veilguard I play, the less I care about the DEI shit, and the more I care about how fucking uninteresting the game is. One thing in particular that annoys me the most is how insanely difficult it is to get people to disapprove of you. NWN2 (which was obsidian, but bioware adjacent) makes it difficult to gain approval, and easy to lose it. KOTOR, obviously the same. Wait, did KOTOR even have an approval system? I can't remember. I know KOTOR 2 did, and it was brutal, but that was also Obsidian.

Anyway, you don't realise what you're missing until it's gone: in DAI, you had to think what you were to say. If a conversation had the choice between saying "It won't be easy, but we'll do it" and "Let's fucking go", you had to pick wisely, because a lot of your party would disapprove of one or the other, EVEN though it amounts to the same thing. Veilguard is safe, easy, and leftist. It's pure slop. Origins was a hilarious satire of the career of Margaret Thatcher (the blight is socialism, the farmers represent the miners unions, Tevinter is America, look it up), but Veilguard just feels completely aimless.

I talked about Outer Worlds. Outer Worlds may have been "capitalism bad", but at least it was SOMETHING. Veilguard isn't even "X is bad", it's just lots of diversity. I've heard it said that a sociopath is a man who understands that if he keeps talking, no one will notice he isn't saying anything. If that's true, Veilguard should be thrown into ADX Florence

EDIT: Speaking of let's fucking go, let's fucking go

EDIT 2: OK, so I wanted to get through to the end, so I used Cheat Engine speedhack to run the game at 1.5x speed. It is significantly more fun and engaging. Recommend you all try that

I actually tried to get Traash killed in the final battle. I failed because I did most of the content.

The finale is pretty good overall, probably one of the better ones that Bioware made.
Which isn't that hard, most of their finales were bad.
