Overwatch

Came here to ask, how the fuck are there still 40,000 players in OW2 despite the mass uproar over how shit the game was? Even before people gaslit themselves into thinking Overwatch was "saved" because some Astronaut had an actual ass, this game somehow had around 30k+. I mean holy shit even during peak fuckup for the game around launch the playerbase was still a steady 30k? Is it the dopamine people are so hopelessly addicted to? Is it coomers? I know consoomer normies are just hopeless but good lord.

Most of the other alternatives are having their own sets of issues, some of them being big enough that players feel like they still have to play OW2. TF2 is 17+ years old and the community is no better. Paladins is still very niche and somehow only still going because of cross-play. VALORANT has the invasive Vanguard anti-cheat that turned players off from playing Riot Games's games completely. R6 Siege is also getting very old, is going full-on rainbow mode as well, and has tons of feature creep. Battleborn, LawBreakers, and Concord are all literally dead games. I don't even know if you can still play Dirty Bomb in 2024.

You can actually, sadly the only people on there are people who would rather you gone and the game die than have a resurgence, no newfags allowed sort of deal. I've had hundreds of hours combined from two accounts (was sharing on my friend's PC at the time) and good lord these sweats...Anyway, I see what you mean. Still, with such a huge amount of screeching you'd think the game would die anyway. Then again the amount of people who interact with the internet in a decent capacity compared to the rest of the people who play the game...I mean there's a reason you can ask anyone on the street if they know what Reddit is and they'd probably only have a passive familiarity if any at all, within those 40k+ active players are people who probably never go on their computer more than a few hours a day and use it as a glorified console.

as someone who still plays, its generally still one of the best hero shooters on the market despite blizzards incompetence, i personally enjoy the class based gameplay, but I understand why someone would hate it

There are (allegedly) 50,000,000 OW2 accounts - so 40,000 active players is pretty terrible in terms of volume.

TF2 (a game that is borderline unplayable from 2004) has ~60,000 at the moment.

"HEY REMEMBER WHEN THE GAME WAS GOOD?"
Respective blog post about OW2: Classic.

Sorry, @FatalTater, but loot boxes aren't coming back.

Q: Why weren’t legacy features like loot boxes, the original UI, or Competitive mode included in Overwatch: Classic?
A: We focused on our heroes, maps, and overall gameplay with Overwatch: Classic, and the scope allows us the flexibility to balance these events with other exciting new gameplay.

It would've been nice to have the classic UI again. OW2's new UI is a horrible change. I cannot tell what is highlighted or not in menus.

I don't know what's going on any more.

The amount of industrial glue they must be sniffing in the Blizzard 3D modelling lab.

I think I might grow a bit fond, especially seeing Pharah and Mercy flying the skies on the older maps.

Granted, and I suppose in all fairness to this entire game and its relationship with balancing, I've hated something in almost every period of its life cycle. But I wonder if going back with more 'seasoned' eyes might expose strategies that could undo that, or at the very least lessen the burden of dealing with them.

Then again the majority of the player base now that it's FtP are more tailored towards going it alone which Pharamercy shits on, so watching them all crumble will be fun (even if it'll likely be at the expense of my sanity and any prospect of winning matches).

I hadn't played Overwatch in quite some time, not even the Halloween event even though it was always one of my favorites.

Today I played Overwatch Classic for a couple hours.

DOPAMINE LEVELS RESTORED!

SIX players per team!
The old maps!
And most importantly?
Everyone playing was doing it for fun!
There was no hateful pressure to be Perfect Or Else. It was just goofy fun, like a GAME is supposed to be.

I did miss Moira, but before she showed up I was a Lucio main and it wasn't hard to get back into it.

5v5 has been working for Paladins. They don't need to force roles or overbuff the tanks. The tanks can do their things and healers are not obsolete. Hmmmm...

Paladins is in a really nice place rn. Balance, economy, content...

Aside from some of the matches featuring Widowmakers (something about instantly dying makes the fun die out quickly for me; I hate good Widows and I wish I had their skillset), I had fun! I had assumed we wouldn't be going that far back in time and having updates up to at least Ana's debut or prior to Brig's existence which caused a slight disappointment because I have grown to adore a lot of the extended cast, but fucking around on the old maps alone brought so much happiness to my heart.

There was a match I lost where during the second round, we made a comeback against a Bastion Bonanza defense team through sheer force of will with a 5-man Reinhardt and 1 Mercy composition, and I think it was one of my favorites matches of the evening. We lost the last round HARD, but I couldn't shake off the feeling I got from everyone embodying that HONOR! JUSTICE! REINHARDT REINHARDT REINHARDT! mentality and somehow rallying to a victory in round two. It made me remember why I loved this fucking game so much.

I didn't want to stop playing for the evening when I finally put the game down. I haven't had that feeling when closing the game in AGES. Typically it's "well, that's as much tilt as I can handle today" or something along those lines. But Classic was kind of like going back in time.

Not a lot of tanks or healers unfortunately, probably due to the newer player base, but it was hilarious winning games despite constantly getting slaughtered because the enemy team didn't know what the primary objective of the game was. One game on Hanamura involved getting ass blasted by Widows, a villainous Mei, and a rotating Hanzo/Genji/McCree, and we still won because they never made an advance to the second point.

My biggest fucking complaint, however, is the key binds. I haven't looked into it but I'm not sure if changing them would cause ALL game modes to be fucked or if it would even affect OW Classic at all.

Actual healsluts: Hyper faggot gooners.
r/healsluts: Lukewarm mid-20s white suburban girls moaning "d-daddy!" on voice and wetting themselves.

Shit like OW, Apex and.. roblox, for some reason, apply primarily to adult ass women.

So what I'm getting out of the past couple posts, is that basically everyone was right and the astroturfed esports bullshit completely fucked up what would have otherwise simply been a fun game. Some people have forgotten that overwatch actually had a growing esports scene prior to the OWL bullshit. Good pvp game with enough of a playerbase will develop a scene on its own, and certainly not trying to base the entire thing off of professional team sports.

Makes you wonder how the game might have turned out years later if blizzard hadn't focused on the OWL bullshit.

Stylosa did a cope video to try to explain how having fun is bad, akshully.
Wow, yeah I quit watching at the 6 minute mark when he had already repeatedly said that people don't know what they want, people don't want to play launch overwatch, people don't want to play without hero limits, etc. yet everyone else who seems to have touched this thing here and elsewhere on the internet says it's fun. He even admits in the video that when OW launched people could just have fun playing for weeks at a time, but somehow this is a problem in his opinion? This makes no fucking sense.
