There's times I definitely do the same thing when I'm trying something way beyond my skill level/ability. Though sadly I do not have a live audience to blame. And I usually don't bother uninstalling because I'm not a gypsy and have plenty of drive space lol.

Modding new(er) games is pretty easy nowadays - I’d say it’s now finally verging into territory where patient and/or very slightly tech-savvy people can do it no problem but outside of guides for tricky games (all of Bethesda’s fucking library) there aren’t universal Modding Guides for Dummies because, surprise, to do that would be infinitely more feasible if all players were running on identical platforms in terms of hardware and if all software were programmed the same way. Mod managers thankfully abound - if you don’t mind frequenting sites with open political agendas NexusMods makes things probably as simple as they could be as things are now, and you can always keep your adblocker on and donate directly to modders who make cool stuff and aren’t retarded faggots.

Someone upthread asked what sort of content I’d prefer Phil to pivot to for new views while maximizing my personal enjoyment and “Phil modding New Vegas (successfully) on his new PC” is really close to if not at the top of the list. He’d burn his house down before he got that Class Five Disaster running stable.

That's kind of the joke or question or comedy here that I have come to realize - who is actually the most lifeless participant in all of this?

There was an early internet public access TV lolcow called Gorgeous George who was kind of infamous on the Something Awful forums. He had a grating personality and was probably narcissistic and shared many traits of DSP. It was really funny when I was young and watched YT compilations of people prank calling his show and he would always react (basically exactly the same as how DSP reacts to troll tips and chat comments).

People would prank call his show back in 2004.

In 2024, his "detractors" (they're called "goons" in this context) still keep it up and are more provocative and aloggy over some fat, failed public access TV presented from 20 years ago. They have also defecated on his father's grave, broken into his house and had physical altercations with him. George isn't perfect either and has reacted the entire time and tried to counter-harass people and has made lawsuits, threats etc and by some standards isn't a "good person"

Seeing that whole Gorgeous George thing, and I think in particular it was this one post that was made in 2020 gave me a lot of pause and self reflection for DSP and this whole "unintentional Truman show" that we all intentionally or unintentionally participate in (either by reading/writing posts here, watching streams, reading tweets etc):

There are still goons making videos and high fiving each other in streams over how awesome they are to spend tens of thousands of dollars and hundred of thousands of hours fucking with an incredibly boring cow.

Like he doesn't have a call in show anymore. I really don't get how these people stay motivated.

Some of these goons have been at it for over a decade.

Unlike DSP, Georgeous George stopped making actual content ages ago but it does make me wonder in all of this what role everyone plays and especially makes me wonder what will come of DSP and this whole "unintentional truman show". What will happen to it all in 20 years? Come to think of it, there are probably people in this forum thread or who still casually follow DSP as semi-hate watchers since his earliest days on YouTube which is like almost 15 years ago.

It feels like interest has already waned and that's (presumably) well before Phil ever actually retires. I think there's enough cows where people will ultimately move on to someone else. Even the more obsessive dentractors like Doody who built their channel around Phil seem like they'd just jump ship and start covering someone else. This might be incredibly optimistic, but I feel like once Phil is done, people will basically forget he existed at all within the span of a few weeks and the only time he'll be brought up is as a punchline.

Yeah DSP is going to disappear once he stops poking his gouty gourd head out on camera. He's done so much shit and all of it has been forgotten. Sure, it's all archived and one could go back and see it, but listening to anything that he does is worse than some forms of torture. I am certain that when a gaff of his is brought up, members of the forum refer to pigpiggo instead of scouring the video archives to avoid listening to that cacophonous horror. Most of his adult life is on video, yet people like Wings are more popular in the mainstream and will probably be remembered because of his early PKA affiliations, whereas Phil has been disconnected from the greater internet because of his aversion to others, his hermetic lifestyle, and being unable to market himself as popular ( being unable to fight RTU, fumbling every opportunity he's had as a streamer, etc).

Phil is a Lolcow because despite being so insignificant, never having to interact with others or leave his house, what he does do is profoundly retarded. Unlike some other subjects, we may never find out about what becomes of him because he could just stop going live one day and that could be that. All of his tweets and anything that comes out of his mouth is unreliable, so unless he goes postal in a Mcdonald's because somebody didn't like his attitude when he served them a burger, he could disappear from the internet when the hogan spending catches up to him.
