TGWTG The Spoony One / Spoony / Noah Antwiler and Rachel Baker / @RaeAngel07 - The touching romance between a washed-up videogame reviewer throwing a decade-long pity party and his delusional Canuck stalker. #weaknotsick #donttellmehowtosulk

He's doing "stuff" already, how many views it gets? 1000, tops?

Would this dude even still have an audience if he started doing reviews and stuff again? I mean, it’s been like 8 years since his last one.
A very small one, probably under 10k views a video. It's been covered in this thread before, but the problems with his content in current day:

Production quality, or rather lack of. Even 10 years ago he was behind the curve on having a decent camera/set/etc for his videos, and he knew that because he put together his little counter monkey set, a pile of board games in the corner, etc. but even that was halfassed. Living at Miles' house he probably doesn't have the space to do anything, and considering he seems to refuse to get a normal job, doesn't have the income to buy cameras and lights and shit. I'm going to link a video below, but the audio is shit, the camera isn't even focused, the thing seems crooked somehow, this is not something people these days would watch. Just look at all of the other channel awesome rejects that still try, and fail to get views doing the same shit.

His age. He's 43 and hasn't been relevant to anything online in a decade. He also looks like a fucking mess now and could presumably clean himself up a bit, but other than leftover diehard fans, who would want to look at him?

His video content for the couple of years up until he basically quit. He wasn't even playing the videogames, he was paying other people to do it for him. This actually matters because it's entirely possible for him to inadvertently leave shit out. Afterall, he's not playing the game. Also not understanding context of things within a game, and generally just not coming off as genuine(this is also especially absurd when you consider that he could be streaming games, capturing the footage, and then actually posting videos about them).

Collaboration. He does these streams with a nobody voice actor. But for everything else? He doesn't have people to play boardgames with, tabletop RPGs, etc.

Being behind the times. It was clear with counter monkey that he had barely played any pathfinder, and hadn't touched D&D 5e. If he goes back to the tabletop content, he wouldn't be speaking as someone with experience about anything.
Two hours of this shit(it's a 2 parter), and he doesn't know wtf he's talking about. It's not like he got a group of people together, actually tried to play it, and then discussed those experiences. With the hundreds of other channels that have come and gone since then, with dozens that have stuck around and become more popular than he ever was, why would anyone go to him for that type of content? And I'm not even saying he'd be competing with Matt Mercer, Dimension20, or anything as big as that. There are tons of channels that cover this stuff already. Even that xp to level 3 faggot has 750k subs and can get 200k views a video pretty easily.

Being completely unable to deal with people. He couldn't handle his own forums, he couldn't handle twitter, patreon, youtube comments, he'd blow up on people while livestreaming. Most other people streaming(other than shit like DSP, and even he still tries to pretend on occasion) act grateful to their audience, pretend to appreciate the donations/superchats, respond to the chat when they have a moment to do so as a means of audience engagement. When even DSP has at least partially figured this out, and spoony couldn't, what makes you think he could ever handle an audience again?

@p1138
Most of that is true. I actually was listening to his Pumpkinhead commentary vid where he credits the guy he got the footage from because he couldn't beat the game, but I didn't know he didn't get the footage himself otherwise.

I think there's some people out there who'd check him out again, myself included, but he'd need to apologise first for wasting so much of his fans' money and being such a prick, which is unlikely. I mean, he can't just drop a review video without explaining himself at the very least.

But other than that, what made him quit so suddenly? Was it really just the movie goal being hit?

It wasn’t sudden. His productivity was through the floor at that point, Scarlett was his anchor and she was gone. And he hit the goal without any work being done except for a vague plot outline. I think he was hoping it would fail, so he’d have an excuse to get depressed and implode.

He also did it for at least one of the Ultima games, and one of the Final Fantasy games(I think he got it from Bennett the Sage?). Probably a couple more, and in the case of final fantasy.. it's not because he couldn't beat the game due to a skill issue or something it's because he was fucking lazy and didn't want to play it as if he had better things to do sitting around in his house. Again... could have just streamed it and chatted with his audience while doing so but he couldn't even be fucked to do the basics that even DSP does.

And no, it wasn't a sudden drop off. It was a fairly quick decline in output and going for a lot of lazy sit on the couch and talk about that week's professional wrestling or a movie he watched with April instead of actually making a "real" video about something. I don't think he did a damned thing after April left other than some shitty streams where he bitched at his chat or spent most of the stream sitting there dead silent(with and without a face cam) usually playing everything pretty damned poorly. Clearly there was some kinda of sad brains depression spiral or whatever that he fell into.

Depends on the video at this point. If it was one of his regular videos I'd say no. He maybe able to get three videos out before people left as there are more people doing what he did on a more regular bases. He'd have to do something like a multipart retrospective on a series of some sort. However he's already done the more important ones to him.

Another thing that could help him sadly is a Reb Brown video after the actor dies. He's 76 years old now. Since he stopped doing Youtube, Reb was in one last movie, Surge of Power: Revenge of the Sequel which is the sort of thing Noah would like.

If he wasn't a lazy misery golem he could probably get a decent following making micro-reviews on apps like TikTok; short 30-60 second videos that give a QRD on games/movies/whatever.

The problem is that would still require a modicum of effort and editing --maybe even writing a script, god forbid-- when it's much easier to fire up OBS and stream for a couple of hours rambling and getting pissy with your tiny remaining audience.

I wanted to check his channel and discovered that if you search 'spoony' on YouTube it doesn't appear. In fact, none of his content appears except playlists made by other people and stuff he's cameo'd in. Even if you search 'noah antwiler' his channel comes up, but the first two results are documentaries about him (one being Fredrik Knudsen's). It seems SpoonyCoin is officially dead in 2024.

When I did finally get to his channel it appears his livestreams (the only content he still regularly produces) average a couple thousand a piece, a far cry from the hundreds of thousands he used to pull in.

I always assumed it was the same creative burnout that happens to most YouTubers. Even if your content maintains quality making the same type of videos for years and years has to get boring, especially if your content is based around performative negativity.

You have to factor in that in the period between ragequitting Fallout 2 and the Gaming Garbage sequel he now does with two other has-beens, he almost certainly got put on some heavy meds as a condition for living off parents and Miles. That would suck out whatever soul he had left. Getting out of the bed might be a huge effort to him now.

He's not going back, ever. Youtube is a young man's game and he's pushing retirement age while on the same med regiment as Chris Chan.

Maybe in 10 or 20 years Sam Hyde can do a special season of Fish Tank exclusively starring lobotomized stars of early YouTube. Pretty sure Fred would jump at the opportunity to get a paycheck if he hasn't died of AIDs by then.

One big thing that killed off his steam was that his side had won the culture war for awhile. He's an old school SJW like most of CA and when woke became mainstream they couldn't bitch about it. So the anti-establishment type videos went over to Critical Drinker and Nerdrotic and so on. I watched Angry Joe for a bit and he'd trash the Star Wars shows some, but I got tired of him after a short time.

People like Marzgurl or Spoony or almost any of them couldn't do that, because they think that stuff was the peak of entertainment. Now they're all too old and miserable to be any kind of new wave of TDS/anti-normal shit like they were.

The one time he took a break and came back very strong was Minority Report. He even said 'I'm back!!' and it worked. There is one coming thing that he could do something like that on, the Hiighlander Reboot (if it even happens with Cavill or at all, seems in development hell).

He'd have to shave that scraggly beard and get a sense of humor again for that to work. His Curtis streams are just him moping with a dead eyed post-lobotomy grin the whole time. He's gone. Maybe if he got off whatever anti-psychotics he's on and drank heavy for a few weeks he'd have a tiny chance at doing something good again.

And he and Warthog have let me down so hard with him only doing a token TDS tweet and she's been AWOL still.

That would just get him posting on twitter 50 times a day ranting about anything and everything he doesn't agree with. Not getting anything productive done. The man couldn't manage to produce a video a month to keep his patreon bucks rolling in to keep his house from being foreclosed on. What makes you think he'd be able to get any work done in the safety of his brother's house without the possibility of being homeless looming over his head?

I have a soft spot for this retard. Every year like clockwork, I get an itch to listen to some of his counter monkey videos in the background while working on something or exercising. My favourites are the thieves world ones and his vtm larp jihad video, his autism and blind guardian intro just does it for me. I’ve been unable to find something that has the same feel to it, someone recommended Seth Skorkowsky but he’s far too sterile. If anyone has recs hook me up.

Dice Scum on youtube. Kiwis who mostly do in-depth reviews of corebooks but if you like DnD nerds talking shit with a story sprinkled now-and-then, check out Autistic Analysis of DnD Classes playlist or the Requiem for Rome one.

Seth also pays SWFA dues so I'd be careful with him. I stopped watching him years ago when he mentioned that.

I agree, some of his old stuff is very comfy and I listen to them once or twice a year. His commentary videos on his reviews are good too.
He had genuine talent, which was rare for a TGWTG contributor at the time, except maybe Todd in the Shadows. But he wasted it.

I'll dare to say Spoony was probably the best for a short time of them all, even over Doug. He had great potential, then something the fuck happened when he started growing his hair long. We all know how the women in his life really messed him up, but I also place a lot of blame on Jackson for being his bagman and yes man and shielding him from any criticism. It's hard to say there though if it was the chicken or the egg. Was Spoony so fragile that he needed Jackson, or did Jackson turn him into that fragile husk?

Considering his life before TGWTG, I'd say he was a fragile mess all along.

Spoony shares his opinion with some fans on the gayest fight in history.
