Are you lost needing femoid advice post here - For the poor bastard's who dare or are just curious

A loose braid takes care of everything. As for humidity—luckily, I don’t live in a humid climate, but I did spend some time in Tokyo, and it wasn’t too bad. Good conditioning keeps hair 'heavier' so it doesn’t fly everywhere and tends to stick together better
@pork and beans so you get the struggle! Does your hairdresser force you to stand up as well to trim the endings? Do you have any tips to speed up hair drying process? It's a struggle but the effects are SO WORTH IT ❤️
YEAH, I use a loose braid for winter now all the time!

for the gym I always wear two braids Pippi long stocking style LOL. WAY better than ponytails in my opinion, less tension and allows you to lay in benches.

I don't live in a humid climate either, thankfully. OMG my hairdresser has never asked me that, but then again, I'm really short.

Honestly I havent used a hairdryer in years, I hate the feeling and the heat of it. I dry it with a soft towel until it's not dripping wet and let it air dry. It does take a while but always turns out very soft and homogenous if you make sure the air hits all the different layers (?).

was wondering: long hair, yay or nay?
Because every time im in a book store and pass near old lady smut book section theres always a Fabio looking dude. And im not sure if long hair is a part of the appeal for everyone or is it just old lady thing.
I know I'm about to commit the thread sin of being a moid giving advice but
you commit to taking meticulous care of it. That means regularly trimming the ends, using quality shampoo and conditioner,
This really really needs to be emphasized lmfao, long hair that you use 2-in-1 body was shampoo on will look disgusting, and you don't need to spend insane money on hair care products to hair great healthy hair.

This is a really good channel for mens hair care and that's a good primer video. It's pretty easy to figure out what works for you and your hair after watching this. A lot of dudes who grow their hair out and ask me about mine tend to just think they can cut corners or have to spend like $100+ on hair shit and you don't.

and i will invest in a conditioner
You should learn about the PEH balance

I have never heard of such a chart. Have you had any luck with it yourself?
Really? Polish hair communities love this chart and swear by it. I actually had great results with it—it turned out the best approach for my hair is to start with a bit of linseed oil, let it sit, and then follow up with a protein-rich conditioner. It works well, but finding the routine that suits you best can take a bit of trial and error
Edit because I don't think I've expressed myself properly- apply some linseed oil (you should keep it in the fridge btw), let it sit, WASH THE HAIR, apply the conditioner.

Depends not only on how well you take care of it, but also what your hairline/thickness/texture is like. As a heads up, it is not at all uncommon for hair to have different textures throughout (ex. my hair is softer and smoother around my neck and above my hears, and wavier/coarser on the rest of my head), so you might have to learn how to style a bit. I also suggest you maintain your hair by seeing a decent hairdresser every couple weeks/months to trim any dead ends, provide layers if that is what serves your hair texture best, etc.

Well-maintained, healthy, long hair is great. Unkempt or unhealthy long hair is worse than being bald.

How do you trim the sides with long hair? I've got a ponytail going but it's kinda a bitch to keep because the sides kinda "puff out". (It rubs against my ears also which is annoying as fuck lol)
If you don't really know what you're doing, I suggest not taking scissors to your hair yourself. You can experiment with styling the sides a little bit to they lay better, or see an actual hairdresser for a quick trim/cleanup of the sides.

I need to learn to brain my hair passably. Midback and extremely thick/heavy. Ponytails give me a headache after a while.

I used to color my hair all the way through and it would take about 4 hours at the salon. I'm trying to see how long I can stand letting it grow. I live in FL and have to wash my hair about every three days. I have to use a blowdryer or it takes 5+ hours to air dry. Ugh.

I am just surprised how many men here have long hair :dove:
One must assume that the majority of users here are unkempt

I know of two men with the same hair texture - curly and thick (3a-3b for those who know the hair chart). One of them would only shampoo his hair once a week, no conditioner no styling. It was greasy and frizzy. He said that's how he was supposed to take care of it and he wasn't going to put in more effort than that. The other washes his hair every day. Shampoo, conditioner, hair oil, air drying, bonnet, whole lot. It takes about 2.5 hours total but his hair looks great and is very healthy, I ask him for advice on my hair often. He keeps it down to his shoulder blades while the prior buzzcuts now. Knowing how to take care of long hair is often deemed too "feminine" than slapping some gel in it and calling it a day but it's far more attractive than I think most men realize.

I used to have long hair before it started thinning which broke my heart, but I think its that if you have a longer head, it can frame your head better and looks better. When I say long head this is probably a burn on myself but I remember walking through a neighborhood once and this guy was moving out, sitting on his porch and he looks at me walking by then yells out, 'you have a long cranial index!". I had to look it up and it kinda made me feel like shit lol.

Also I think its getting more common since there are more guys getting into the 'looks' regimens, and you realize people will compliment it if you have wavy or curly hair and well kept for being longer.

the only piece of advice that i heard before, is that you not supposed to wash them too often.
Idk, my hairdresser told me the same thing, max. 2 times a week (better once), but I really felt gross not washing them every second day. Maybe it's a thing where your scalp has to get used to not producing as much oil because you don't constantly wash it out?

Whether or not that works for everyone is entirely debatable (and entirely personal). You can come across info that is convincing on both sides. Oil does have to be on your scalp, though; it protects it, moisturizes it, and so on.

There is the issue of how oily your skin is to begin with - if you have generally oily skin, then you will have to wash it more often. If you don't, you risk oil buildup and creating a good environment for bacteria to breed (your head is a REALLY good place for that to happen). I've heard of people properly fucking up their scalps by trying to train them into being less oily. I'm gonna be guessing here, but maybe you'd be able to train it into being less oily for an extra day or two? That is IF you have damaged it already by overwashing it. Otherwise, you will see no difference because there are many other factors at play here.

One of the big ones is how quickly oil moves from the scalp down the hair strands themselves - straight and sparse hair has that happen quicker, whereas it's slower vice versa. Washing less often won't change this one.

I think the other factors are: 1. how sweaty you get throughout your day; 2. how much you touch your hair; 3. your diet. There are probably more, but those are the ones I've found in my research on the same issue.

In general, you really do not need to do scalp training if you have not damaged yours to the point where it is overproducing oil. Overwashing is a thing, of course, but if your scalp feels fine to you (not itchy or red), then there is absolutely no reason for you to not follow your gut here. Look into everything else. Maybe put your hair in a ponytail for like a day extra at a time, and pay attention to how your scalp feels if you really want to try it out.

BIG HUGE NOTE: I will always remain a shill for Big Bonnet. Buy a silk bonnet and wear it at night; it will help oil get distributed along your lengths instead of sitting at the base.

hipster man bun
I totally forgot to mention this kind of thing in my earlier post. There are ways you can wear long hair and not look like a fag, and the 'manbun with beard and glasses' combo is not one of them. I'll say it straight, manbuns just do not work on white dudes, and I have no clue why hipsters tried to adopt them. Doubly same for something like cornrows (you can't wash them and that should say it all).

I personally wear mine 'natural' with a simple part down the middle, and tuck it behind my ears. I'll tie it up if I'm trying to eat, drive, or sleep. In my opinion simple is best when it comes to wearing it long. I don't know if I'm just naturally blessed with my mother's genes, but I don't do anything special and wind up getting those wavy curls near the ends.
alrighty guys I need good scalp moisturizer.
For me it's just been the basic bitch 2-1 dry scalp stuff. I've never had full-on dandruff or anything like that, but that stuff has kept me pretty shiny and soft. Those shampoos used to smell too 'medicinal' for my liking, but in recent years they must have figured something out because the aroma of the one I use is pleasant.

I was a test subject of the no-poo movement by my mom in the 2010s, as was my best friend by her mom. I was only allowed to wash twice a week with diluted castile soap and my hair still retained it's characteristic preteen grease. My best friend was not so lucky as she was allowed one wash. Sitting next to her in an unconditioned late august portable was hell.

Something I was about to note in my own post, both the men I mentioned have thick, tight curls and low porosity. It takes the latter about 10 minutes just for his hair to get fully wet. I take about 30 seconds. My hair gets greasy within 24 hours of washing, his can go a few days. The sebum has much harder time getting into his cuticles and traveling down the shaft. He'd wash less often if not for his job while I have to wash at least every other day.

Oh, keep some hairties on you too. You never know when you'll need one in a pinch. My old brush actually broke at the handle, and after using it for a while the teeth started to come out and it's finally time to go out and get one today. A hair tie will save you in a pinch when you can't comb your hair for some stupid reason like that.

Warning: bad hair day dox inside

Don't let this be you. Invest in a (sturdy) brush, and some ties in case you didn't bring it with you or it just fucking breaks. Long hair can look fine when you take care of it and wear it right, but when you fuck up and do it wrong boy do you really fuck up royal. You don't have those sort of problems with shorter cuts assuming you have a decent hairline.

Very real. Hair ties, much like portable batteries, are one of those things that you will only find yourself needing the ONE time you forget to take them with you. Like that train that always arrives with delays until you're the one that's late to the station

They've definitely saved my life in situations where I needed to look presentable in an emergency like meetings. A 'hack' I've used myself is that wetting it down all around before tying it can help in situations where your hair got fucked up working in the field (like when it's windy or something). If you can't comb it in a pinch, wet it a bit, do your best to straighten it up, and tie it back.

I'll add that you also have to get used to combing regularly. Even the parts that suck like the back, where the base of your skull is. If you don't regularly maintain your hair it will clump and knot no matter how well you wash it. Trust me, it sucks when you get behind on that.
