Man, the Alex Jones case pisses me off so much. For 1.4b, you would think Alex shot those kids himself. That price is basically making someone into a personal slave in your name, because you pushed a conspiracy theory?
No, it basically ended his business because he acted like an asshole in the same judge's court in multiple cases, and the judge decided he never wants to see Jones again.

This sounds like Europe, ironic coming from Americans who routinely shit on that political configuration
Does it? To my understanding most European countries use a proportional system which accomplishes the opposite, basically mandating unstable & often short-lived government coalitions that are prone to imploding if you don't appease the (usually at least nominally quite divergent) interests of every constituent party constantly - unless of course all the establishment and 'left-opposition' (usually greens, woke socialists, lolberts and other flavors of neolib cuck puppet, I guess in American terms their closest equivalent would be 'independent' senators who functionally act as extensions of the Dems like Bernie Sanders & Angus King) parties all need to gang up to stop any actual opposition party from gaining ground, in which case that is exactly what they'll conveniently do even if the governing coalition has officially fallen apart (see the multipartisan push to ban AfD in Germany today).

Meanwhile the Japanese LDP was usually strong enough to just rule on its own for ages, Abe for example never needed a junior coalition partner to prop him up while he was PM. I wouldn't say even the non-PR countries are configured like that politically either, Britain for example has had pretty steady and consistent exchanges of power between Labour & the Tories (and before that, Tories/Liberals) with neither party overwhelmingly dominating for like four decades at a time.

As for the feds... I think they have so much real bullshit to deal with - terrorism, pedophiles, serial killers, drugs and arms trafficking - that someone saying nigger or mocking a tranny online is low on their totem pole of things to address. I'm not saying they don't scout around places like this, but I don't think it's as much of a concern because it's still legal to say nigger and mock people for being retarded.
i don't know that it's necessarily pressure from agencies like the FBI targeting criminal activity. more soft pressure that comes from people rubbing elbows and wanting to work their way up in the political world and knowing if they work against the swamp that hates Trump they're going to stop getting invited to networking parties or be passed up for that easy job at some random agency that does nothing substantial but gets millions of dollars of funding per year

i agree with the rest, though

Even the FBI hates this shit because it wastes resources that could be used investigating serious criminals.

I can't. As discussed up thread, if you find yourself in court, do nothing to piss off the judge. Jones gambled that he was too big to fuck over if he acted like a clown instead of complying and lost the bet.
while I do believe alex brought it on himself, also his retarded lawyers didn't help, the gorillion dollar final fine forces me to sympathize with him despite his antics. If they had kept it to something even like half a billion I could maybe buy it but 1.4 billion leaves a real sour taste in my mouth seeing.

It was the amount of money needed to end his company. The more I think about it, the more I wish more companies would be dissolved by lawsuits. "Okay, Pepsico, I see you're just not tired of fucking over your suppliers by playing games with late payments. This is the 38th small contractor who's had you in my courtroom, and I see once again you are trying to bankrupt them by dragging out the process. Pay $226.52 billion in damages."
