He's obviously scared of his wife, who is a complete monster that has access to all his bank accounts and social media (at one point he mentioned that she hasn't deleted his TikTok, merely renamed it, and she'll let him have it back if he behaves). He didn't
want to leave, but if she'd made him leave he would have - and was trying to save face after being emasculated by ranting about "protecting his family" and how he was so rich "$50k ain't nothing, only $35k after taxes, I've got millions" (because if he was leaving, he wanted to make it look like it was his choice). Once he'd accepted he was staying because la ogresa had been placated, he tuned out her last minute change of mind (when she started threatening to divorce him again if he didn't leave). After that point, I think everything else was grandstanding. He kept demanding his phone and ignoring everyone telling him that he could get his phone by going to the basement, again because he wanted to save face after being humiliated again.
What did Alex talk about with Sam before Binx turned up? Sam was grilling him about what money he
actually had. Alex reiterated he
really cared about the $50k because everything was expensive "even if you're rich" due to things like land tax, and he needed to work for a living. When Sam asked him about the Rolex he had, he "didn't know" what model of Rolex was because it was a gift from la creatura. He told Sam he wanted to go "behind the cameras" and have a proper conversation about "going into business". He also repeatedly showed off his wife's ring, bragging that it was "fully paid off" and "cost as much as a condo". Reading between the lines, I reckon the Bernards bought him a house and maybe give him a monthly stipend to cover some living expenses (but not land taxes), but also required him to actually work to keep receiving that stipend. Meanwhile he's living FAR beyond his means (monkeys are not cheap to keep, and neither are whales). If anything, he might have already been cut off because he seemed to mention that $50k "unlocking" millions (which might have been about investing it but I'm not so sure). It was repeatedly mentioned that he had "two reasons" for staying in the house.
I think they probably need that $50k VERY BADLY - not so much to cover expenses, but because he's been cut off (hence why he stressed so much about his wife spending a couple thousand dollars). Which is also why he keeps rambling about making momma proud and honouring daddy's memory - he wants to demonstrate he can actually earn a decent amount of money since they cut him and la ballena off (and although he's scared of her, he's trapped in an abusive relationship with her and so is scared of losing her; if he's not got any money, she WILL leave. Promise of money will keep her around, especially since he's got a prenup). He was with his wife for 6 years but they had their "second wedding" a week before the show started, which is probably when that expensive (and tacky) ring was purchased... so Alex may have cleared out his savings to placate la bestia jamón, as Alex thought it was both a surefire thing he'd win and that also he'd become famous on "Famous House" (whereas she didn't want him out from under her thumb).
The way la cerda tries to get him out of the house? Claiming he's shaming the Bernards by being on the show (despite making him do humiliating things on camera) and insisting the $50k prize isn't real. Both of those things would undermine his objective of being on the show. Once she was placated with Binx and successfully had him wrapped around her (fat) little finger, her lard-soaked mind started scheming and realised why he went on the show, hence the suspicion they were trying to get the other Fish to give up so Alex would automatically win the $50k. I reckon that unless la monstrua desnuda is able to turn up at the house again or otherwise get in communication with him, he's going to stay as long as he can.
