Dude the problem is to created a silhouette that would be a recognizable as a logo while keeping anatonomy intact.

The second one is very good. Can you try putting more weight on the upper shoulders and stretching a leg out longer

Maybe one of these options could be closer? Either make it look like the boulder is REALLY kind of crushing him down lower, almost smashed onto his butt nearly bent forward over his own legs or have the boulder a bit more over his upper back and shoulders and more like he is pushing from below a bit?

The symbolism of upward gazing vs. downward gazing has me split. On the one hand, the downward gaze implies absolute focus and a conviction to never give up. On the other, the upward gaze implies hope and a belief that one day the task will be done.

Hell, here's my attempt at making some compromise design(s) using your two pieces. Just imagine a downward gaze if you prefer.

I don't disagree with you, though I think Null has a pretty clear idea of what he wants. But here's what it would look like if he were looking up:

Though I think the ground should also be in profile view as well, otherwise it looks like he is sitting down (Sisyphus may never rest).

Looks like Jersh has picked what he wants if he meant the second one, well done! Now the hard part of somebody making an inkblock style engraving version of this... I can do some studies later if needed but if you/anybody has more experience doing the engraver's style it would be for the best - I only ever have done it from reference of existing designs for making CNC milled printing blocks or coin dies.

In the mean time, did he ever say which type of Federal seal or otherwise he wanted it to be like?

I could do an engraving type render, though I am not an expert of that style. Additionally some finer details would need to be clarified before a final rendering is made anyways. Such as if the figure will be clothed or have hair and a beard.

My first thought was to make a statue like academic drawing

however now im leaning to try something like this.
idk, ill make a propper line art and then test a couple of things
plus need to think about how to make logo pop out
Are we restricted only with 2 colors or can we do 3 like here?

The fun of community projects is probably everybody trying something to their own intuition and then comparing results. Once there's a few WIPs maybe we should then ping the boss man and ask his opinion. I'll work on a little something and post later today.
