One Piece - I'm Gonna Be the Pirate King!

Miura was cripplingly unhealthy and worked himself to death and Toriyama straight up had an accudent that led to his death.

If anything the authors wanting to make sure we know they are fine as a result is having the opposite effect.

What’s wrong with him? Nothing if people are honest. He just works himself to death because he likes it. If he wasn’t forced to take breaks, he wouldn’t. And now every time he is people think he’s dying.
Blame Japan’s work scene for that. And the grind of a weekly manga as well. And from what I’ve heard, Oda may well be an anomaly in the industry where his dying moments may be like Osamu Tesla because of how dedicated he is.

I’m not sure if people have cataloged how frequent One Piece breaks are compared to things like Berserk and Hunter x Hunter, but I have to wonder if folks are considering the scene and the toll it takes on Oda and his peers at his age.

At least there’s some contingency plans for the worst from what I’ve heard.

See, I don’t even think it’s that. I think Oda just likes his work that much.

Very likely. But unlike everyone else he’s already said he’s trying to finish as fast as possible. Dude wants to retire.

Yes. Nowhere near as bad.

Obviously that’s why Oda has been on forced breaks every 3 weeks for years and fans think he is dying every time anything else adds to that.

Shueisha is palpably terrified of Oda Tazuka-ing himself. And even with Oda divulging to his editors what the end goal of One Piece is, they are probably reluctant to try and pull a Berserk and Oda hasn’t apprenticed anyone to pull a Dragon Ball Super.

If the plan is “leave One Piece unfinished” if Oda dies, I have to wonder if Oda’s ending will be revealed, if only for closure to fans. Even if it’s the vaguest explanation possible, such as “Luffy finds the treasure and becomes Pirate King, Celestial Dragons lose their status, Koby and Smoker become admirals, Zoro beats Mihawk, Nami completes her map, Robin learns of history, and everyone achieves their goals”.

I have to assume most at this point have already started to put in their own theories and headcanons so they don’t go crazy in speculation .

I would like to say this is a Dangerous idea, we know that fucking with Franky's Fuel fucks with his personality.
Franky would jump at it the moment he discovers the interaction between mentos and diet coke. That combination would become to Franky what the rumble balls were to Chopper.

Oda has a shit-ton of notes, apparently. Unless his will says otherwise, he'd probably like to have the series finish as planned to bring readers closure (and to give Jump some time to try and find their next golden goose).

He said he’s already dedicated to have his series finished as he planned….assuming nobody in his circle or all of Japan figures out that finish.

I think it wouldn't even require Japan's Autistic as shit culture to cause this, from what I hear he truly loves the fans and might be doing the Robert Jordan thing of "My Fans gave me everything, they fucking deserve for me to have as much as I can complete before I go"

Finished the Luffy vs Katakuri fight. Damn, he was a great villain. Haven't felt that in while.
Katakuri is a fucking King.

I thought that was already well established. And the other part was we’re currently in a stage where Oda is trying to cut back from doing absolutely everything he wants to do.

I was gonna make a joke about his kids putting out their own Silmarillion after he croaks, but really the SBS fills that niche.
Also, bold of you to assume his family wants to actually contribute to or have a hand in the One Piece saga in the event Oda dies (this is just speculation since there’s nothing about those kids made public and I have no ill will towards the kids. I’m sure that they’re amazing and Oda loves them dearly.)

It would still be an awesome end of series extra to format and release. Supposedly he has backstories for every single son and daughter of the Charlotte family and the only reason we know Mr Pinks origin is because his editor pushed for him to include it in the story. I love all of those overly detailed vignettes of minor characters, makes the world feel more alive. Obviously I don't need this in the main series, but a collection of "OP Files" or whatever would be awesome.

From everything stated, they could very well do that. Word is there is way more stuff.

Rocky Port for instance did not end up in SBS

There needs to be some collection I feel of all the canon material that never made it in to the main work or the SBS. Otherwise once complete future readers will not know some things.

Something I found out. Kazuki Yao, Franky's seiyuu, met with Masako Nozawa, Goku's seiyuu.

I'd just like to put out 2 things here:

1: He's 68. Meanwhile, Nozawa is 88.

2: He's just an year older than Hirohiko Araki, creator of JoJo. Granted it's a bit unfair to compare a cyborg to a vampire.
